Das Recyceln oder die Wiederverwertung

Die Wiederverwertung ist wichtig für die Erde:

Wenn wir nicht recyceln, wird es immer weniger Bodenschätze (Ressourcen) geben.

Ohne die Wiederverwertung wird es auch immer größere Müllberge geben!

Müllberg In einem Jahr produziert die Stadt Köln so viel Müll, dass der Kölner Dom in den Müllberg versinken könnte! Die Türme sind 150 m hoch!

Das kann schlecht für die Umwelt, für Tiere und für Menschen sein!

Man kann sehr viele verschiedene Waren und Container recyceln:

Altglasflaschen Es gibt verschiedene Glassorten: Braunglas Grünglas WeißglasWeißglas

Pfandflaschen In Deutschland kauft man Getränke meistens in Kisten, die 9 oder 20 Flaschen enthalten. Die Flaschen enthalten Mineralwasser, Cola, Limo, Bier oder Frucht- Säfte wie Orangen- oder Apfelsaft.

Getränke in Pfandflaschen kosten mehr, aber man kann sie zum Laden zurückbringen und Geld für sie bekommen.

Pfandflaschen, die aus Glas oder Kunststoff bestehen, kann man in der Industrie wieder sauber machen und wiederverwenden.

Altglastonnen: In Deutschland hat jede Nachbarschaft solche Container. Lastwagen holen sie regelmäßig ab.

In der Industrie kann man Altglas verschmelzen und zu neuen Flaschen machen.

Der “Gelbe Sack” oder der “Sack” ist eine andere Weise, gebrauchte Materialien zu recyceln.

Man kann Küchenabfall in die Biotonne reinwerfen!

Man sammelt Küchen- abfall in kleinen Containern zu Hause, dann nimmt den Abfall raus und wirft ihn in die Biotonne.

I got caught for the third time this morning and people in the house are starting to talk. It looks as if there may be consequences for me this time. Hermann said he got a visit from Frau Plassmann, the old lady on the ground floor. She’s the garbage Spitzel (informant) in our building. She’s the only one we know about for sure, that is. She saw me put some empty milk cartons in the normal garbage bin and not in the yellow “empty container” garbage bin next to it. One doesn’t do that here. I don’t know how she saw it but she did.

Oh man I’m dead. You can’t just simply put your household garbage in a garbage can in this country. That would bring the entire garbage collection process to a screeching halt. Glass goes in one container, the biodegradable stuff goes in another, newspapers in the next one. If you break the rules, they won’t pick your garbage up. And if they don’t pick your garbage up, people like Frau Plassmann start making calls to the Zentrale, you know; the garbage police. I’ve never actually seen them, but they must exist. They have to. How else could you get everyone here so nervous and anxious about separating their stupid milk cartons and stuff?

We had to learn it (because it has not always been that way) and you should be able to leern it, to. If I'm abroad, I have to accept local behaviour as well - so why can't you just accept it?  We Germans tend to believe that separating garbage is a German specialty - but obviously, that is not true. When I was in California recently, I learnt that they have a garbage separation system that works almost exactly in the same way as the German system does. You have to separate your garbage as well - and I guess the organizers of this system won't accept it when you do not comply with it. And you should not overlook that Frau Plassmann has no official function, she is not really an informant or police - just an old lady who probably is lonely and hasn't much to do, so she tries to do something that she considers "useful".
