Die “Effectiveness of HIA” Studie
22 teams aus 19 Ländern Three year project 15 Aug 2004 – 14 Aug 2007 Bestandserhebung und Identifizierung von Bedingunge für eine Erfolgreiche Umsetzung. The Effectiveness of HIA project is a 3 year research project which involves 22 teams from 19 countries in Europe. The overall aim of the project is to map the use of HIA, evaluate its effectiveness and identify the determinants for its successful implementation The first publication came out in September: 2 chapters in the HIAP book for the Finnish Presidency. The second, a book of case studies on the effectiveness is anticipated for April 07. I will focus this part my presentation on Task 1 = literature review and questionnaire, which answers the following question: How is HIA used in Europe? Later I will address Task 2: the effectiveness of HIA, but as it is a work in progress so I will not present the results today but rather an overview of the task and what we can see so far. Co-funded: European Commission, Public Health Work Programme (Grant agreement )

Cost Benefit Analysis of Health Impact Assessment ) O’Reilly, Trueman et al. 2006) “York Health Economics Consortium followed 16 HIAs looking at the process, impact, outcomes and costs and benefits of HIA. The findings show the benefits outweigh the costs, although it was a small sample”. Benefits of HIA were identified through interviews with decision makers and stakeholders. These two groups were asked to rank the value of the benefits from HIA relative to a number of hypothetical costed alternatives
