Austria in intern. Comparison – EIS 2005 Österreich im europäischen Vergleich eine der dynamischsten Entwicklungen: Österreich hat sich beim European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS) der Europäischen Kommission, einem Vergleich der Innovationsleistung von weltweit 32 Ländern, gegenüber dem Vorjahr im Gesamtranking vom 15. auf den achten Platz verbessert. Im Vergleich der 25 EU-Mitgliedsstaaten hat sich Österreich vom 10. auf den 5 Platz verbessert und seit dem vergangenen Jahr Norwegen, Irland, Niederlande, Frankreich und Belgien überholt. Spitzenreiter ist Schweden, gefolgt von der Schweiz und Finnland. Österreich weist nach Finnland die stärkste Steigerung der Forschungs- und Entwicklungsausgaben pro Einwohner zwischen 1995 und 2003 auf. Der Sonderfall Finnland erreichte +128%, wird aber schon von Österreich mit + 87% gefolgt, wobei Länder wie Südkorea (+52 %), Italien (+ 47%), Deutschland (+43 %) oder Großbritannien (+27%) deutlich dahinter liegen. Major Recommendations of the „Strategy 2010“ Part I Increase the public funding for RTD by 7-9% per year Increase the budgets of the Austrian Science Fund FWF and the Research Promotion Agency FFG by 9% per year Safeguard quality in all fields, achieve excellence in selected areas Implement the „excellence strategy“ and establish the Austrian Institute for Science & Technology (AIST)
