4 Today‘s condition in transport and sea cargo handling ConRo services need to have containerised as well as break bulk cargo Container dominates in North Sea ports, RoRo cargo dominates in southern Baltic Sea ports Container ports have higher departure frequencies but only for Container The low departure frequency of RoRo hinterland transports - in comparison to container transports - cause direct intercontinental road transports

7 Comparison of RoRo transport chains Considering the German hinterland, the Port of Hamburg has shorter road distances as e.g. Luebeck (80 km) or Kiel (100 km) Truck based pre-/on carriage is faster 8h action radius for trucks increases (HH-Kassel will be possible)

8 Comparison of RoRo transport chains The Port of Hamburg offers very good pre- and on carriage conditions of RoRo transports and could be an interesting alternative if the sea freight conditions would be the same as in Kiel or Luebeck.
