Arzneipflanzenforschung in Österreich Die stark steigende Nachfrage nach pflanzlichen Arzneimitteln ist begleitet von einem hohen Informationsbedarf, der nur durch intensive und systematische Forschung gedeckt werden kann. „Negative Meldungen“ können nur durch Forschungsergebnisse entkräftet werden. Die Forschungsfinanzierung läßt derzeit keinesfalls Optimismus aufkommen

Valeriana officinalis L. s.l. Baldrianwurzel, Ph. Eur.: verwendet in der Phytotherapie als mildes Sedativum und einschlafförderndes Mittel VALERIAN ROOT Valerianae radix DEFINITION Valerian root consists of the dried, whole or fragmented underground parts of Valeriana officinalis L. s.l., including the rhizome surrounded by the roots and stolons. It contains not less than 5ml/kg of essential oil for the whole drug and not less than 3 ml/kg of essential oil for the cut drug, both calculated with reference to the dried drug and not less than 0.17 per cent of sesquiterpenic acids expressed as valerenic acid (C15H22O2; Mr 234) calculated with reference to the dried drug. Efficacy and safety are known from traditionel use; For quality control 5 ml/kg of essential oil and 0.17 % of sesquiterpene acids expressed as valerian acid are demanded from the Ph.Eur.
