Conclusions In Giwi Margwelaschwili’s novel the space is merely a structure with no reference to concrete time and space, but rather an abstract scheme of universal validity, as it is typical for postmodernist fiction. In Kapitän Wakusch the space is organized in a way, that it conveys the main thematic opposition of the text, which in striking resemblance to the spatial model developed by Deleuze/Guattari represents two modes of thinking/living. Within given spatial structure every notion of homeland is revealed as an illusion (balloon) which exists in the media representations (pictures, books, songs…) only, thus being permanently absent. The Häuschen as a vertical/hierarchically arranged construction of a totalitarian order is opposed by the heterotopic counterspace Dixiebahn, another polysemantic neologism comprising notions of freedom, peace, creativity and multiculturalism and represented as horizontal and dynamic by its nature. This sort of spatial disposition serves to apologization of moving/total emigration and reveals the subversive role of the Kapitän/wanderer, a character that never stops moving and rejects allocation to (i.e. identification with) any Häuschen.
