Albert Kahn nutzte sein Vermögen, um das damals größte ethnologische Foto- und Filmprojekt mit aufzubauen - das „Archiv des Planeten“. Dieses umfasst mehr als hundert Stunden Film und über 72.000 Farbfotografien aus der ganzen Welt. Seine Idee war, durch die visuelle Darstellung des alltäglichen Lebens aus allen Teilen der Welt, ein Verständnis für andere Menschen und deren Kultur und damit eine friedliche Welt zu schaffen. Gleichzeitig hielt sein Archiv aber auch viele Kulturen im Bild fest, die durch die aufkommende technische Revolution in den nächsten Jahren untergegangen sind. This encloses more than hundred hours of film and more than 72,000 colour photography from the whole world. Later that year the Wall Street Crash reduced his financial empire to rubble and in 1931 he was forced to bring his project to an end. Kahn died in poverty 1940. Am Anfang von 1929 war Kahn noch einer der reichsten Männer in Europa. Später in diesem Jahr reduzierte der Wall Street Crash sein Finanzreich auf wenige Teile, 1931 wurde er gezwungen, sein Projekt zu einem Ende zu bringen.
