The villagers seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest, and started catching them. The man bought thousands at $10 and as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort. He further announced that he would now buy at $20. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again. Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer increased to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch it! The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50! However, since he had t o go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on behalf of him.

3 In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers. "Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you at $35 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each." The villagers rounded up with all their savings and bought all the monkeys. Then they never saw the man nor his assistant, only monkeys everywhere! Now you have an understanding of how the stock market works.

4 Eines Tages kam ein Mann in ein Dorf und kündigte an, dass er Affen für je 10$ kaufen würde. Die Dorfbewohner wussten, dass es viele Affen in der Gegend gab und sie gingen in den Wald und fingen sie. Der Mann kaufte tausende zu 10$ und als der Bestand geringer wurde, stoppten die Dorfbewohner das Einfangen. Daraufhin verkündete der Mann, dass er nun für 20$ kaufen würde. Dies beflügelte die Dorfbewohner und sie begannen wieder Affen zu fangen. Schon bald wurde der Fang so gering, dass die Dorfbewohner zurück zu ihren Bauernhöfen gingen. Das Angebot steigerte sich auf 25$ pro Stück, doch es gab so wenig Affen, dass es größter Anstrengung bedurfte, auch nur einen einzigen zu fangen. Der Mann verkündete nun, dass er Affen für 50$ kaufen würde. Weil er in der Stadt einigen Geschäften nachgehen müsste, würde nun sein Assistent die Affen für ihn kaufen.

5 In Abwesenheit des Mannes sagte der Assistent zu den Dorfbewohnern: " Seht doch all die Affen in dem großen Käfig, die der Mann zusammen getrieben hat. Ich werde sie euch für 35$ verkaufen und wenn der Mann aus der Stadt zurück ist, könnt ihr sie ihm für 50$ verkaufen." Die Dorfbewohner sammelten all ihre Ersparnisse und kauften die Affen. Dann sahen sie den Mann und seinen Assistenten nie wieder. Nun haben Sie einen Eindruck, wie die Börse funktioniert.
