The Grünes Gas-Label German seal of quality for eco-friendly, sustainable biogas products for end-consumer (voluntary) Certified products exist since 2014 Consideres all steps of production Origin / cultivation of substrates Processing Transportation (regionalism) Use of biogas (electricity / heat, fuel, feed in) Gas product options have to contain a minimum of 10 % eco-friendly sourced biogas (with “physical coupling”) Criteria: Matrix scoring system with positive and negative points Matrix scoring system with positive and negative points  you have to achieve a minimum of 20 points Grünes Gas is the seal of approval for environmentally friendly biogas. It is issued for biogas sourced from regional renewable raw materials that are generated by environmentally friendly means, including manure and biogeneous waste. The Grünes Gas Criteria List 2013 Gas product options awarded the Grünes Gas label contain a minimum of 10 % environmentally friendly sourced biogas. The biogas is locally produced and not produced at large-scale industrial facilities in countries far away. This strengthens rural Germany structurally and financially and supports rural communities in acting on climate change and protecting the environment. Grünes Gas stands for ecologically friendly biogas at all steps of production and assures greater transparency and credibility in the biogas market. The Grünes Gas certification is supported and endorsed by seven non-profit environmental organizations including consumer information groups and peace-furthering organizations.

Criteria – Environmental Benefits Criteria for exclusion: No use of the herbicide glyphosate No break of grassland for cultivation substrate No more than 50% of the main field crop in the biogas plant No slurry / manure from factory farming No use of genetically modified organisms No biogas plants with a capacity above 5 MW or 2.500 m3/h biogas* No involvement of the provider of a nuclear power plant * except for residue-plants There are some criteria for exclusion: Hohe Punktzahl für Nutzung biogener Reststoffe/Abfälle Kein Einsatz des Unkrautvernichtungsmittels Glyphosat, Kein Umbruch von Grünland für Substratanbau, Kein Anteil der Hauptackerfrucht über 50% in der Biogasanlage Keine Gülle/Mist aus Massentierhaltung (Definition siehe Kriterien) Kein Einsatz gentechnisch veränderter Organismen Keine Biogas aus Anlagen mit einer Leistung über 5 MW bzw. 2.500m3 Biogas. Der Labelnehmer wiederum hat ggf. nur eine Geschäftsbeziehung mit einem Zwischenhändler Oder bestenfalls direkt mit dem Anlagenbetreiber, aber nicht mit den Rohstofflieferanten.
