3 Introduction Web cartography of regional statistics and election data in the official statistics becomes more important Technologies applyied for web cartography are highly different in the federal government and states Up to now there are no consistent maps available in the Internet with official statistical data at LAU level for the whole area of Germany So far only administrative and national election units are used for spatial reference of statistical and election data Politische Gremien: IMAGI, GIW Öffentliche Datenanbieter: GDI-DE, Länder-GDI, Verwaltungsdaten einzelner Gemeinden und Regionen

14 Outlook Technical maintenance and update of contents for the interactive atlases of regional statistics and elections will be continued Further development of the Internet map server technology in the Federal Statistical Office is intended e. g. for the register of municipalities (LAU 2) Initiation of grids as a spatial reference system for the cartographical visualisation and spatial examination of statistical data will be aspired
