2Schnellerer Backupwandel IT-Umgestaltung beschleunigenund den geschäftlichen Erfolg fördernWelcome to today’s event – Lead Your Backup Transformation. We’ll show how you can lead your transformation with EMC Backup and Recovery, accelerating your IT transformation -- and your business.
3IT-Infrastruktur im Wandel durch die Cloud Standardisierung1Virtualisierung2Automatisierung3Cloud transforms IT Infrastructure. There’s three steps starting with standardization, then virtualizing, then automating.
4Wie funktioniert der Backupwandel? But for today, the question is - how do you transform backup?
5Eine Antwort auf die wichtigsten hemmenden IT-Herausforderungen Zunehmende DatenmengeBudgetdilemmaInfrastrukturwandelComplianceOne thing is certain – backup needs to transform. Traditional backup is breaking under today’s Top IT pressures – and holding you back in the process. Not only holding back your IT initiatives, but in many cases your business.Addressing them is the first step towards transformation.Data Growth – 50X in the next 10 years according to IDC.Budget Dilemma - 73% of IT budgets go to maintaining existing legacy systems, both infrastructure and applicationsInfrastructure Shift – recently 30% of customers list increased use of server virtualization as number 1 priority. And 8 out of 10 rated protection of virtual environments as a top priority.Compliance and Discovery – 16,000 regulations worldwide for corporate data retention and managementDer erste Schritt auf dem Weg des Wandels

It’s faster and more reliable than tape. It reduces storage with deduplication and it’s ideal for Virtual Machine protection, moving less data and allowing you to meet your backup windows. And it enables longer retention on disk for faster recoveries.

Backup and recovery impacts “time-to”. It must be effective and allow organizations to grow their business without fear of data loss. 11und höherer geschäftlicher Nutzen durch intelligentes Backup FinanzdienstleisterBeschleunigte weltweite ExpansionTechnologieanbieterSchnellere ProduktentwicklungEinzelhandelsunternehmenBesseres Verständnis der KundenLet’s look at some examples of what a transformed backup environment can deliver for your business.First, let’s start with a financial services company that’s using transformed backups to accelerate expansion into worldwide operations. They’re able to do this because they know their data, wherever it is, is safe. With our Data Domain deduplication storage systems as a foundation, this company not only trusts that its local backup will succeed but also protects again site loss.Next, a technology company is using transformed backups to improve product development cycles. Traditionally, they had constrained the size of NAS shares to limit backup/recovery exposure. The company artificially split projects into smaller pieces, which complicated the development process and irritated developers. With EMC Avamar® deduplication software and systems driving an order of magnitude performance transformation, they can now share all project data on one central share— which drives productivity. In our last example, a retail organization is using transformed backups to improve customer profiling and accelerate business. Historically, all database backups ran through the backup team. The DBAs had no visibility into whether their databases were truly recoverable, and they had to depend on the backup team to run all of the recoveries—from row to table to database. As a result, the DBAs were extraordinarily adverse to change. When the backup team offered Data Domain systems as a service for the DBAs to run their own backups, the entire culture changed. The team was confident in their ability to protect and recover the databases. They became more aggressive at implementing database changes—which then enabled them to better analyze customer data, which improved their business.
12Unsere VisionAn important part of leading your backup transformation is knowing where EMC Backup and Recovery is heading. We’ll look at where backup has been and how we want to evolve backup for you.
13Die Evolution des Backups BACKUP AUF BANDBackupserverTraditional backup is tape centric backup. It’s how you used to do backups – perhaps even still do. You put backup clients on application servers that send data to media servers that then sends that data to tape. There are big problems with this. It’s expensive. You send all the data through media servers, then to tape. As applications get bigger and need to run 24 x 7, this becomes a problem. Backup slows down and you have protection risk.Plus in this model, the data is put in proprietary formats, locking users into a particular vendor’s solution. There’s also too many moving parts. There’s too many phone calls to install clients. Then calls to move it to tape. Then calls to have it transported offsite. Just too many moving parts. So it’s expensive, slow and locks you into proprietary formatsThis leaves the backup team reactive and drowning.Backup-clientMedienserver
14Die Evolution des Backups BACKUP AUF BANDMIT DEDUPLIZIERTER FESTPLATTEBackupserverThis leads us to the next phase of backup evolution: putting in deduplicated disk. It makes life better. It just plugs into the environment. This is EMC Data Domain.Backups succeed more often, performance improves. Less communication needed. Recoveries are more reliable. This frees up the backup team to breathe. It helps scale the environment. But after a while – years - it’s not enough. Backup pressure starts increasing again. There’s more data. Virtualization. More regulations. You need to start thinking about where you are heading next.Backup-clientReplikationMedienserver
15Aktuelle Veränderungen Neue Funktionen. Mehr Optionen. ITaaS-Erwartungen.To help know where to head next, you need to look at today’s realities and what’s driving the industry forward. There’s new capabilities, more options and new service oriented expectations.Fundamentally, backup performance and visibility are driving the shifts. With disk everywhere and new backup tools provided by applications, storage, and hypervisors, data owners can now do their own backups as they seek faster, easier backup. The data owners also want more visibility. Backup is critical to their success. But they wonder why they have more visibility into their personal data backup than the business data they manage. They want to know where their app or VM data is – and it’s status. They need that comfort, that safety net in order for them to drive their plans forward – and lower their “time-to”.
16Evolution außerhalb der Phasen VirtuellDATEN-SCHUTZ-SILOSAnwendungenBut here’s the danger the ecosystem shifts present. An “accidental architecture” can emerge. It’s being driven by this data owner empowerment. They can do their own backups. The apps, virtualization and storage teams rolling out their own backup solutions creates silos. No one team has visibility across it all. How much storage am I using, how many backups am I keeping, how much money am I spending? No one knows.SpeicherPhysisch
17Umdenken Was Anwender Was Unternehmen wünschen benötigen Einfachheit SchnelligkeitTransparenzWas UnternehmenbenötigenFlexibilitätEffizienzKontrolleToday’s realities and trends require a different way of thinking of backup. How do you address user wants for backup ease, speed and visibility while at the same time ensuring the business gets the backup agility, efficiency and control it needs?
18Architektur für Schutzspeicher EMC protection storage architecture enables you continue your backup evolution in phase – no silos.Let’s look at the key elements of this architecture – and why only EMC can deliver it.First, it enables you to consolidate on protection storage - and eliminate silos. You’ll improve performance, reliability and efficiency. It’s step one – and it’s a big step. You need storage that’s fast, efficient, scalable and fits within diverse environments. You need storage that’s designed as storage of the last resort, with end to end data verification and self-healing. Data Domain deduplication storage systems provide this. You then need to integrate with the data sources. If you don’t there will be no consolidation, as data owners will go back to silos. Here’s where we differentiate once again. We have the broadest, deepest, most extensive integration with leading applications – Oracle, SAP, Microsoft - leading storage and leading hypervisors. This means, for example, that DBAs can use RMAN to control backup, recovery and replication – while the backup team owns and controls the storage. No silos. The next requirement is providing data management services. This includes not only central visibility to manage the scalability you will need but also new capabilities to deliver value added services. Visibility to stay in control and new capabilities to provide the kind of services that will keep your customers coming back. Policy management, storage management, reporting, charge back, etc. Only EMC can provide this – with a single view of the entire backup environment and self-service end-user dashboards giving end-users the visibility they crave (Data Protection Advisor).
19Backuptransformation Der Weg des WandelsPhase 1Phase 2Phase 3Phase 4NurBandBandmit FestplatteDeduplizierungmit FestplatteITaaS-AnbieterIT-TransformationNow it’s important to remember though that it’s a phased journey. Most want to jump from phase 1 to phase 4.You start by going through phase 2 and 3 – showing you can do backups more efficiently and reliability. The key is picking the right disk platform. If you go with the wrong disk solution – that’s your baseline – you’ll be stuck with the wrong workflows. This will in turn keep you stuck in a phase without the ability to move forward without considerable effort and redesign.EMC protection storage architecture framework allows you to continue your transformation evolution at a pace that makes sense for your business – but without barriers along the way.Backuptransformation
20Keine Universallösung Jeder Wandel ist einzigartig und jeder Kunde ist anders. So let’s talk now about deployment models. We know one size does not fit all for backup.Every situation is unique and everyone of you is different.
21Welches Bereitstellungsmodell ist für Sie geeignet? HybridCloudPrivateCloudPublicCloudHybrid clouds will undoubtedly become pervasive. Instead of being forced to buy more and more equipment to handle workload peaks in their private cloud, customers can implement a hybrid cloud architecture with a cloud vendor that they trust. Doing so will give customers the best costs and the most efficiency. Why: cost and agility. How does EMC Backup fit into these models?
22Public Cloud – Backup-as-a-Service LokaleBackupservicesBackupservicesmit DeduplizierungRemote-backupservicesThere are three basic backup as a service models for public clouds.Local backup services – this is where a public cloud provider backups up data that they are already managing for you within their public cloud.Replicated backup services – this is where you replicate backup data from your data center to their offsite location. And there’s remote backup services – where backup is done over the WAN from your site to the public cloud provider. These public cloud backup services are delivered by EMC’s trusted partners.Vertrauenspartner

278 von 10 Befragten ordnen dem Schutz ihrer virtuellen Umgebung eine hohe Priorität zu. A recent ESG survey showed 8 out of 10 respondents rate virtual environment protection as a top priority.Traditional backup is a big reason why – as we discussed, traditional backup does nothing to handle 50x data growth. It’s moves all that data, storages it all (actually consuming 5-10x the capacity of the primary storage it’s protecting) and can slow to a crawl in virtual environments. This leads to increased risk and cost. You can see why virtual environment protection is a top priority for so many of you.ESG Research Report, Trends in Data Protection Modernization, August 2012
28EMC Backup mischt die Karten neu Optimiertes Virtualisierungsbackup90 % kürzere Backupzeit30-mal schnellere Image RecoveryEinfach – 81 % weniger ZeitaufwandVMware-IntegrationUnterstützung für Hyper-VIm Schnitt 7 Monate bis zur AmortisationBut EMC Backup changes the game – giving you complete confidence your VSPEX (or other converged or best of breed virtual infrastructure) will be protected so you can go full speed with your cloud deployment.EMC Backup is optimized for virtualization backup. So much so, VMware’s VDP backup solution is based on EMC Backup. Why? Because we move less data than anyone, reducing virtual machine backup times by 90%. So you’ll meet your back windows, avoiding protection gaps. Plus with VSPEX your backups will be stored on our market leading backup appliances, which are designed as storage of the last resort. When you need to recover, you can. And we have deep VMware integration, and this delivers even more speed benefits. We also support Hyper-V, delivering the same 90% reduction in backup times. Net-net you’ll be worry free knowing your VSPEX will be protected. This is a critical distinction, but there’s more. We’re also really efficient. Our deduplication will reduce backup storage by 10-30x and backup admin time by 81% (and of course backup storage required by 10-30x). Net-net: customers see an 7 month average payback. Amazing. We also have deep application support so you’ll get advanced capabilities to further optimized backup and recovery capabilities – but we’ll get into that part in the next section.
29Weniger Daten verschieben, Backupzeitfenster einhalten Deduplizierung mit EMC Avamar verschiebt weniger VSPEX-SystemdatenVirtuelle Infrastruktur mit VSPEXNetzwerkBACDA fundamental difference with EMC backup: we moves less data so you’ll meet your virtualized applications backup windows. Our solution here is EMC Avamar. It can move backup data to Avamar Data Store or Data Domain.Let’s take a high-level look at how Avamar works.Avamar starts by dividing data into sub-file segments. It compresses them and applies a unique hash identifier to each one. Then it can determine if that segment has been previously backed up or whether it‘s unique and should now be backed up.If the data has been backed up previously, then Avamar will not back it up again. With Avamar, you’ll “never back up the same data twice.” On top of that, Avamar routinely reduces data by up to 99 percent before backing it up. The data that is truly new and unique is sent across the network compressed, which again helps with bandwidth management on both backups and recoveries. The data is also encrypted, which ensures security while in transit as well as at rest.DDAACCCBBBAAD

EMC and VMware work in lock-step to ensure the highest levels of integration and performance. This means even more speed and simplicity benefits than what we just covered. Let’s take a lookFirst, Avamar is proven and unique in VMware environments. So much so that VMware’s VDP and VDP Advanced backup solution is powered by EMC Avamar.Avamar allows you to backup at the guest level for application consistency. If you choose to implement image level backups, Avamar’s tight integration with VMware delivers. It leverages VMware’s Changed Block Tracking to speed image level backup *and* restore. No one else does this. We’re also unique providing proxy VM load balancing ensuring backups speed along in the most efficient way.All Avamar recoveries are single-step, and we can accomplish a file-level recovery from an image backup.Tight integration with VMware vCenter Server provides ease of use for managing the environment. One key benefit is the ability to quickly see which VMs are protected and, more importantly, which ones are not. A simple one-step recovery is as easy as point and click to retrieve your file, folder, or database.Avamar may also be deployed as a virtual appliance in a VMware environment. Backup data is stored in a virtual machine, which is an Avamar virtual appliance.
31EMC Avamar Changed Block Tracking Beschleunigung von Backup und RecoveryBackup mit Changed Block TrackingVMImage ProxyCBT-BlöckeEinmalige BlöckeStandardwiederherstellungVMImage ProxyGesamte VMGesamte VMOK, now we’re going to look at how Avamar does image-level or file-level backups, taking advantage of VMware’s vStorage API for Data Protection and Avamar’s Changed Block Tracking (CBT).The vStorage API approach involves creating VMware snapshots of a VM, and presenting them to the virtual proxy host—which runs in a separate VM. VMware shows Avamar a list of changed blocks from the proxy, and Avamar will break these changed blocks into variable length segments to determine which specific segments are unique, and then sends only those new segments to the Avamar Data Store. You will like this approach because it moves the backup process away from the VMs where your applications are running. As you can imagine this is purposely designed to avoids performance impact.Note to Presenter: Click now in Slide Show mode for animation.Take a look at the slide here. The Avamar agent is automatically installed on the proxy host where it runs your backups from there to an Avamar Data Store. Because of VMware advancements, including the ability to run the proxy server in a VM and to dynamically “hot-add” volumes to that proxy without physically moving data across the network, Avamar is able to backup large VMs, as can be deployed in the Vblock, in just minutes. Now let’s take a look at the standard restore process. You can see in the slide that, in the old days, prior to the Avamar 6.0 release, the recovery process simply restored either the full file, if in a Windows operating system, or the full VMDK image. But today, Avamar tracks the delta of changed blocks to speed recovery by restoring only unique elements required to rebuild the file, folder, or VMDK requested—resulting in much faster restores. This is different from most backup applications that require at least a periodic full backup. You can see that Avamar can process the changed blocks identified by VMware into a new fully recoverable image on an ongoing basis. And just as in physical environments, Avamar’s deduplicated replication of protected VMDK files allows for network-efficient disaster recovery—and importantly, greater flexibility in how you can whether to the original VM or to a new location. One feature that you will especially like is the ability to do one backup, and with Avamar, you have the option of a bare-metal restore OR a more granular file-level recovery.Wiederherstellung mit Changed Block TrackingVMImage ProxyCBT-BlöckeCBT-Blöcke
32Avamar VMware-Proxy-Lastenausgleich Schnellere Backups dank universellem Proxyserver-LastenausgleichESX SERVER 1. . .ESX SERVER NABCDEFProxy-VMProxy-VMAnother great Avamar feature for virtual environments and VSPEX is proxy-server load balancing, which increases backup throughput, and enables multiple Avamar proxy servers (set up in your VMs) to distribute backup jobs automatically across the cluster for optimum performance and minimal impact to the host processor or storage solution. This is all automatic and transparent, simplifying the management of VM backup. You’ll notice that this feature is especially important in a highly virtualized environment, where VM density continues to grow, and client-side optimization is paramount to sustained backup performance.Note to Presenter: Click now in Slide Show mode for animation.Avamar assigns VMware proxies dynamically at the time of backup by automatically finding the least busy proxy in a round robin approach. As you can see, Avamar can load balance jobs across virtual proxy servers to assure that individual proxies are not overtaxed. This proxy-to-host-to-VM relationship is dynamic, so performance can be sustained without impacting the production environment. Jobs can also be directed to available proxies to handle high-priority workloads. Universal proxy-server load balancing helps drive down costs by having fewer proxies to manage in your VSPEX/virtual environment.VMwarevCenter Server
33Integration in VMware vCenter Server Einfachheit dank zentralem Management für VMware-BackupoptionenOne of the great values of server virtualization is how much faster and easier it is to stand up a new server implementation. Virtual machines are easy to create, are portable, and can move from ESX host to ESX host automatically. When new virtual servers can be created in an instant, with a point and a click, how can you assure they are associated with the right backup policy?Avamar has taken the steps to integrate with VMware’s management tools—particularly vCenter Server—in order to make management of backup and recovery more effective. With Avamar, you can access vCenter Server directly from the Avamar user interface. New virtual machines are automatically discovered and displayed, so that administrators can apply an appropriate backup policy. Then VMs can be sorted so that their current backup status can be assessed.[green highlight] Administrators can see which virtual machines are backed up (either guest or image) and which ones are not well protected, and then they can make adjustments to correct.

And with the industry’s fastest throughput, Data Domain systems allow more backups to complete sooner, while putting less pressure on your limited backup windows.EMC Data Domain Replicator software transfers only the deduplicated and compressed unique changes across any IP network, requiring a fraction of the bandwidth, time, and cost, as compared to traditional replication methods. So you can also start moving away from tapes and trucks for offsite DR protection.Data Domain provides faster and more reliable restores, with it’s Data Invulnerability Architecture. Simply put, it’s designed as storage of the last resort, with fault detection and self-healing, so that when you need to recovery, you’ll be able to.How does this translate when using Avamar and Data Domain together with VSPEX?Through end to end integration, you have the benefit of getting Avamar’s simplicity and efficiency with Data Domain’s scale and performance. Avamar integration with Data Domain through DD Boost software allows SQL server backup workloads to be sent to the Data Domain system to take advantage of its scale and performance. Avamar supports multi-stream backups of SQL to either Data Domain or the Avamar Data Store for high performance. And as mentioned, you have the simplicity and efficiency gained from having Avamar manage backup, restores, replication and maintenance across all systems. One final note – when customer deploy EMC Backup solutions like EMC Avamar and EMC Data Domain together, they get significant benefit, like 81% reduction in time spent on backup administration. And overall, including the benefits of deduplication, customers see an average 7 month payback when deploying EMC Backup solutions, showing the value of storage and software designed to work together.Im Schnitt Amortisation in 7 Monaten bei gemeinsamer Bereitstellung mehrerer EMC Backuplösungen
36Fallstudie: VMware 96 % Reduzierung der Backupdaten „Mit Avamar merken wir nicht einmal, dass Backups ausgeführt werden.“96 % Reduzierung der BackupdatenHöheres VM-ESX-VerhältnisLet’s look at a case study for virtual environment backup with EMC.Health Quest is a healthcare company in the Hudson Valley of New York with two data centers and 210 virtual machines. The company was using competitive backup solution (Symantec BackupExec) and tape. The company had started to increase its virtualization, but backups began to take more than 12 hours. With frequent failures and downtime, concerns began to rise. Restores were also very long and inconsistent as tape did not provide a reliable medium. Health Quest placed its virtualization project on hold until it could redesign its backup processes.Avamar was chosen and deployed, which eliminated tape and saved a projected $1 million over three years. Initially the company saw a 96 percent reduction in backup data and has been able to continue its virtualization project and increase the VM-to-ESX ratio. They have not only reduced their backup windows significantly, but can provide much improved service level agreements.Health Quest issued a success story and press release. Here is what Mike Close, senior DBA and backup administrator, had to say: “Our weekly full backups for our virtual environment were bringing our VMware servers to a crawl. With Avamar, we don’t even notice when backups run. From a TCO and management perspective, Avamar was an absolute home run.”Note to Presenter: The Health Quest press release containing this quote can be found at this URL:1 Mio. 39EMC Architektur für Schutzspeicher The key to understanding our support for databases and applications is referring back to our protection storage architecture. We said that data source integration was key – to unlock the backup intelligence provided by applications and databases, as well as the use of the native backup applications provided. If you don’t, then data owners will go out on their own using these native tools and you’re back to silos, risk and inefficiency.
40EMC Backup, in Anwendungen integriert Flexibilität und Funktionen für höhere ZuverlässigkeitEMC integrates with data sources both through our backup software and storage.EMC Backup Software – this includes EMC Avamar and EMC NetWorker - has always had a rich set of application-specific plug-ins or modules to work with business critical applications. EMC works closely with our technology partners to ensure the highest level of quality and performance. As seen here, EMC Backup Software supports Oracle, Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, MySQL and SharePoint, IBM Lotus and DB2, and SAP and Sybase – and much more – and across virtual and physical servers.By having this application specific plugs-ins or modules, our enterprise backup software is able to address many of the key challenges around application backups, including providing online backups, application consistency and granular levels of both backup and recovery. Quite simply, this in-depth integration and our work with our technology partners ensures our backup software provide the most reliable backup and consistent recovery for business critical applications. What’s more, we also have unique integration between our deduplication storage and data sources, driving unique value and staying in step with today’s ecosystem trends mentioned earlier. This all adds up to the type of integration and advanced capabilities needed
41EMC Backup für OracleAuswahl – plus um bis zu 90 % beschleunigte Backups und höhere EffizienzDatenbank-administrationBackup-administrationOption zur Steuerung von Backup, Recovery und Replikation mit RMANOption zur Steuerungvon Backup-Policies und AnalysenVerwaltung des SchutzspeichersLet’s look first at EMC Backup for Oracle. In particular, we’re going to focus on our integration with Oracle through Data Domain (represented as protection storage in the slide). In many – or most – Oracle environments, the database admin wants control of Oracle backup and recovery. If not managed correctly, this can result in silo’d backup infrastructures and inefficiency overall. What we’ve been talking about all along.Through Data Domain integration with Oracle RMAN (via Data Domain Boost software) we enable control by the DBA, while the backup team retains control the storage. This is done through DD Boost software. DD Boost is available natively with Oracle RMAN or with leading backup applications including NetWorker and Avamar. What does it all mean? Again, it provides choice. You have the option to offer full DBA control of Oracle backup, recovery and replication – or you can continue to manage Oracle backups. But in either case, the Oracle data goes to a common deduplication (protection) storage. Both the DBA team and the Backup team benefit, as DBAs can have the control they want, while you the backup team maintain ultimate control of the infrastructure. And of course, there no silos. And you (the Backup Team) still have the ability to protect Oracle with enterprise backup software if you want and gain all the benefits of DD Boost as well. And we haven’t even gotten into the performance and efficiency benefits for everyone. Our advanced integration between RMAN and Data Domain delivers 3x faster performance for Oracle backup than the nearest competitor. Their backups have been ten times faster with their newly integrated Avamar and Data Domain system solution than with their previous system, saving them precious operational time and overcoming the challenges they faced in protecting their VMware environment. So a great example of our integrated backup software and storage driving tremendous value. Also, they used Data Domain and RMAN to provide the Oracle DBA team with full control of their database backups. What was happening: the Oracle DBAs were doing backups to local disk then expecting the backup team to swap to tape. It wasn’t working so well. Saint Charles changed this by having the DBA teams doing it directly from RMAN to Data Domain. This had a great impact – backups were running much, much faster. DBAs had full control of backup and recovery. Storage Administrators had 80% productivity increase. This is just a great story of what Backup Transformation can provide for protection of your mission critical applications and databases through integrated solutions.80 % Produktivitätssteigerung für Speicheradministratoren

Both our software solutions leverage the SQL VDI interface for non- disruptive online SQL backups with support for full, incremental and differential backups. Both Avamar and NetWorker offer a full range of SQL database recovery options to allow customers to tailor their SQL recoveries to meet the demanding needs of SQL DBA’s.SQL Server 2012 introduced a distributed application environment with SQL AlwaysOn Availability Groups - which are supported. And additional capabilities include support for SQL database compression, skip or promote (to a full) SQL simple mode DBs during incremental backup; and automatic Log Gap Detection, detecting a log gap and promoting an incremental backup to a full. Not to mention we support SQL Dumps directly to Data Domain systems.EMC Exchange Server protection includes support for Exchange Server 2007 and Exchange Server Using the Exchange VSS writer, you can complete full storage group, database availability group or database backups. Exchange incremental backups are now supported, offering additional backup flexibility.Mailbox, folder and message level recoveries are supported by EMC backup software from the single VSS based backup taken for an Exchange server. Exchange Granular Level Recovery (GLR) allows virtually mounting and browsing of saveset Exchange databases for mailbox level recoveries in minutes. By having this Granular mailbox recovery it also reduces the number of backups, time, and cost required to protect Exchange.Unique to Avamar, is federated backup support for Exchange Server 2010 Database Availability Groups . With Avamar Federated Backups, customers can set a preferred Exchange DAG server list, and Avamar will check each Exchange DAG server in the order selected. This allows Avamar to be flexible for Exchange Server 2010 DAG backups. If databases are migrated to alternate servers or if the active/passive role of a specific database copy changes, Avamar will automatically recognize the new DAG database locations and roles, continue backups based upon the users preferences.Recovery of SharePoint starts with farm-level backup. We use the SharePoint VSS interface to obtain information about a SharePoint farm. This information includes the servers in the farm, and where configuration, content and search databases and files are located. This information is used to take a complete backup of the farm, one that can be used to recover the complete farm, individual servers in the farm, search, content databases, or granular site level content. We have multiple levels of SharePoint disaster recovery, from recovery of a complete farm, individual servers in the farm, search, and content databases. A single SharePoint farm level backup can be used for any of these recovery scenarios.

45Backupinfrastruktur auf einen Blick Anwendungen, virtuelle und physische Komponenten. Selfservice-Dashboards für Anwender.ErkennungAnalyseÜberprüfungWe talked about the importance of data management services in the protection storage architecture framework - in particular the ability to report out on backup status and provide single view of the entire environment.Data Protection Advisor provides a single view of the entire backup infrastructure – both for those managing the infrastructure and stakeholders - through automated data collection, analysis, and reporting. Through this, Data Protection Advisor transforms volumes of data into actionable business information. This allows you to lower costs through the improved use of infrastructure and reducing manual effort. DPA also improves compliance and lowers risk through better visibility and assurance that critical data is indeed protected. And new to Data Protection Advisor with v6 is the ability to provide self-service dashboards to end- users and stakeholders. This enables you to provide the visibility craved by the data owners – the app and VM administrators - providing them the confidence they need to be more aggressive with their plans and initiatives.

The pain point was how to backup, or protect, its business-critical applications.TiVo was challenged by its tape-centric backup approach, which was time-intensive, unreliable and inefficient. By moving to disk, Tivo was able to significantly reduce backup windows and backup- related storage and management costs. Plus, they were able to provide efficient data replication between locations for DR purposes.Von 8 auf 2 Stunden: Verkürzung des BackupzeitfenstersKeine Bandausfälle: höhere Zuverlässigkeit, schnellere Recovery

48Warum archivieren? Effizienz eDiscovery Compliance Let’s review why archiving matters to the world of IT.First, archiving enhances efficiency. Let’s look at Exchange 2010 and SharePoint 2010 migrations as examples. Why migrate old, stale, infrequently accessed data? This information needs to be kept in compliance with corporate and/or regulatory mandates, but that doesn’t mean it needs to occupy Tier 1 storage ! Then there are PST files and mailbox quotas. If data is being centrally archived and managed, PST files are no longer needed and with archive and shortcut of data out of the primary storage device, people won’t hit their quotas and experience the inability to send or receive data. Additionally, this first tier storage can be freed up for current information without having to purchase additional storage. There’s also inactive SharePoint site archives and active storage management issues. Plus archiving can help with system performance enhancements.Bottom line, it’s all about the end user and making sure that they can be productive in their jobs. When it comes to eDiscovery, you need to have rapid response to legal actions or HR inquiries, and you need to search and be responsive without spoliation, which is intentional or negligent withholding, hiding, altering, or destroying of evidence relevant to a legal proceeding. Finally, compliance. You need to deal with corporate policies and lifecycle management, and if you’re in a regulated industry, there’s a host of rules you have to comply with.
49EMC SourceOne-Produktreihe SourceOne ManagementSourceOne for Microsoft SharePointSourceOne for File SystemsSourceOne Discovery ManagerSourceOne is a family of archiving applications for , SharePoint and Windows file servers. Also there’s Discovery Manager for legal search and hold in the archive.SourceOne archiving platform provides benefits to an organization going through IT transformation. Some of which we already discussed, but is worth repeating. Primary storage cost is reduced in mail systems, file systems, and SharePoint databases, and the movement of aged data out of the systems will guarantee application performance gains. With this data archived, single instanced and full-text indexed, users and administrators will be able to perform effective search and Discovery. Retention can be applied consistently across all types of archive data, and just as importantly, disposed of systematically when the retention period expires.Note too that SourceOne works with multiple platforms, both EMC and non EMC storage. But we’re going to focus on SourceOne and Data Domain - and the ability to consolidate backup and archive for greater efficiency.MEHRERE ARCHIV- PLATTFORMEN ZUR AUSWAHL
50Konsolidierung von Backup und Archivierung Höhere Effizienz mit SourceOne und Data DomainBackup-serverDateienBackup and archive consolidation to an efficient storage medium is the way to achieve the best synergy between applications and storage. Convergence at the storage level allows the organization to acquire the best-in-breed applications for both backup and archive, and reap the additional benefits of efficient consolidation. You can do this today with Data Domain (and of course using SourceOne). And the benefits are many. Let’s go through them…With efficient disk-based backups to Data Domain you are going to get faster backup and restore, your primary applications will perform at peak, and information is available via the archive for accurate and defensible discovery and compliance. In this particular storage scenario, you don’t have to worry about archive storage growth or performance, nor do you have to spend time in disaster protection preparedness.Data Domain will take care of the replication, will further deduplicate information in the archive, and in addition will compress and optionally encrypt this data for maximum performance and security.SourceOne-ServerArchivordner
