Seite 5 Sprachenzentrum der Universität Wien Das Sprachenzentrum soll wesentliche Koordinations- und Entwicklungsaufgaben im Bereich der Forschung und Vermittlung europäischer Sprachen in ihren historischen, politischen und kulturellen Kontexten wahrnehmen. […] Das Sprachenzentrum soll das fremdsprachige Lehrangebot an der Universität Wien sowie universitäre und außeruniversitäre Sprachausbildungen koordinieren, Sprachkurse für Nicht- PhilologInnen erarbeiten und Studierenden sowie Nicht- Studierenden anbieten. Außerdem kommen dem Sprachenzentrum wesentliche Vernetzungsaufgaben zu: So soll es die Universität Wien mit thematischen Netzwerkprojekten zu Sprachen im Rahmen von SOKRATES vor dem Hintergrund der Bologna-Erklärung vernetzen.

Seite 6 Die Sprachausbildung an der Universität Wien muss sich an innovativen Sprachlehrprogrammen im europäischen Raum orientieren, insbesondere hinsichtlich des Einsatzes von Neuen Medien und e-learning. Darüber hinaus ist es auch die Aufgabe des Sprachenzentrums, durch entsprechende Maßnahmen die Ergebnisse der linguistischen Forschung mit Applikationsmöglichkeiten im Sprachunterricht zu verbinden und nutzbar zu machen. Seite 7 Language policy statement SAB 2003 Die Forderung nach einer Kultur der Mehrsprachigkeit gilt auch für die Universitäten: Austauschprogramme und grenzüberschreitende Forschungskooperationen sind auf Mehrsprachigkeit aller Beteiligten angewiesen: in Hinblick auf das jeweilige gesellschaftliche Umfeld, die Vermittlung zwischen Wissenschaft, Politik und Öffentlichkeit sowie in Hinblick auf die Lehre. Dies trifft auch dort zu, wo sich die Fächer einer Lingua franca bedienen. Die Universität Wien strebt in diesem Sinne die Entwicklung zu einer mehrsprachigen Universität an, die ihre Mitglieder, Lehrende wie Studierende, zur Kommunikation im internationalen Kontext befähigt, die im Rahmen der Internationalisierung von Lehre und Forschung WissenschaftlerInnen und Studierenden aus aller Welt Möglichkeiten der gemeinsamen Arbeit bietet und nicht zuletzt dazu beiträgt, die Mehrsprachigkeit in Schule und Gesellschaft zu fördern. Dabei bindet das Sprachenzentrum in mannigfacher Weise und in Kooperation mit den entsprechenden Instituten auch die an der Universität Wien unterrichteten außereuropäischen Sprachen in seine Programme ein.
