Opto 22’s solution is the SNAP PAC System. The SNAP PAC System integrates hardware, software, training, and product support into a system package. This system has the flexibility to do most automation tasks, including data acquisition, control, and process monitoring. In the next few minutes, I will explain what Opto 22’s SNAP PAC System is and how it addresses our common wants.

OPTO 22: SNAP PAC System –Programmable Automation Controllers- Now, the software runs and communicates with SNAP PAC hardware. PAC Control strategies run on SNAP PAC controllers. Opto 22 currently offers two types of controllers: the SNAP PAC S-series and the SNAP PAC R-series. The SNAP PAC S-series are standalone controllers. This series of controllers is good for distributed automation systems, systems with high point counts, and systems needing legacy support. The SNAP PAC R-series are rack-mounted controllers. These controllers are good for systems involving cell control, remote I/O, and data acquisition systems.

The hardware is a 32-bit Coldfire 5475 and offers an integrated floating point unit, plus built-in dual Ethernet interfaces that can be used for link redundancy or segmented networking. The SNAP PAC S series has three serial ports: one RS-485 with serial mistic I/O support, one RS-232 with PPP handshaking, and another RS-232 port. The SNAP PAC S-series also offers the most memory of all Opto 22 controllers, with 32 MB RAM, 16 MB Flash memory, and 8 MB battery-backed RAM. The SNAP PAC S-series controllers can run up to 32 PAC Control charts simultaneously. The PAC S can connect to remote I/O racks over Ethernet or over serial, which provides mistic serial I/O support. Often, applications that use a PAC S will run PAC Control Professional.

The R-series is a controller and brain combination and sits on a SNAP PAC rack. The PAC R-series has one serial port, a 232 port with PPP handshaking. The R-series memory is 16 MB RAM, 8 MB Flash memory, and 2 MB battery-backed RAM. The R-series can run up to 16 PAC Control charts simultaneously and communicates with local I/O on the rack and remote I/O via Ethernet. Often, in applications that use the PAC R as the controller, PAC Control Basic is used. Opto 22 currently offers two PAC R controllers, the PAC R1 and the PAC R2. The PAC R1 offers additional digital features such as high-speed counting, pulsing, and TPO. If you do not need high-speed digital functions, the PAC R2 should work for your application.

Zähler 10 Hz, keine digitalen Funktionen Opto 22 controllers run the strategy that handles all the control processes. Controllers communicate with brains, which talk to the I/O. Opto 22’s Ethernet brain family is the SNAP PAC EB series (EB for Ethernet Brain). EB brains are I/O processors with local control functions. EBS work with all SNAP I/O and SNAP PAC controllers. They are the fastest brain Opto 22 has ever offered. Opto 22 currently offers two EB brains, the EB1 and the EB2. Just like the SNAP PAC R controllers, the EB1 has high-speed digital functions and the EB2 does not. Now, what is really neat about the EB brains is that they come with two switched Ethernet ports that can function as multi-drop Ethernet, so you can daisy-chain them and not need an additional Ethernet switch.
