Nordrhein-Westfalen Funding Aera Ruhr Region Dortmund Duisburg Essen Düsseldorf Dortmund Essen Cologne Duisburg Ruhr Region

Funding Area A Region in Change After London and Paris, the Ruhr Area is Europe‘s third largest metropolitan area The region is characterised by structural change - from the former coal and steel district (“Revier“) to an important location for service enterprises The Ruhr Area has about 5,4 million inhabitants The region‘s economy is still growing at below average rates compared to NRW. Meanwhile, with 116 milliard Euro, the Ruhr Area generates only one fourth of NRW‘s GDP. Structural change is in full swing: more and more persons work in the services sector, less and less in the industrial sector. With 12 percent (2002), the unemployment rate lies above the national average. Strukturwandel im Ruhrgebiet Sozialversicherungspflichtig Beschäftigte Quelle: Bundesanstalt für Arbeit 2002
