Märchen fangen fast immer an mit "Once upon a time," oder "Es war einmal…”
Fairy tales often have no specific time or place, other than a long time ago in a land far away… The fairy tale might take place in an undetermined castle, forest, or town. This is the setting.
In einem Märchen gibt es: Kind, innocent, helped by others, clever, will win in the end (glücklich) Will lose and/or be punished in the end (bestraft worden) A good character Der Held/die Heldin An evil character Das Böse
Often, one or more of these characters will be royalty.
Dann gibt es immer ein Problem!
Most fairy tales involve the use of magic of some sort, like spells, enchantments, and other things such as…
Magical creatures (Wesen)
Magical numbers Zaubernummer
Most fairy tales have a moral, or lesson to be learned (die Moral).
z. B.: Eifersucht ist gefärlich. Sei nicht eifersüchtig!
Am Ende, wird das Problem gelöst. (“Das Happy End”)
And most fairy tales end with “Happily ever after,” or “Und wenn sie nicht gestorben sind, leben sie noch heute.”
