Phase 2: Present perfect with irregular verbs and haben Step 1: Haben is still the helping verb. Step 2: Forming the Past Participle of irregular verbs - Bad news: The stem of irregular verbs is, well, irregular. It is usually different from the infinitive. With regular verbs, all we had to do was take off the –en to find the stem. Some verbs don’t add ge- Infinitive: vergessen New stem: gess- Past Participle: vergessen Infinitive: besprechen New stem: sproch- Past Participle: besprochen So, don’t add ge- if the verbs start with be- or ver-. use the present perfect tense to describe actions in the past
