Was kann man machen?  Using the impersonal "man“ Deutsch I Frau Spampinato

Speaking impersonally in English… In English when we speak generally about s.th., we usually say "you". z.B. You can go swimming in the summer. or You can buy shoes at that store. We're not necessarily talking to anyone in particular.

…But in German…. German uses the word "man." Germans are always polite and would never use "du" when they are just talking about things in general. z.B. Man kann im Sommer schwimmen.  One can swim in the summer. "One can" sounds strange in English, but "man kann" or "man soll", etc. is normal in German.

Some examples… Notice the use of modal verbs: z.B.

Can be used without modals… z.B. Was spricht man in Polen?  Man spricht in Polen Polnisch. z.B. Wie sagt man,,windy” auf Deutsch?  Man sagt,,windig”. z.B. Was macht man in den Bergen?  Man läuft in den Bergen Ski.

Üben wir!!! Ask your partners the following questions: 1. Kann man im Frühling segeln? 2. Kann man im Sommer skilaufen? 3.

6. Was macht man, wenn es schneit? 7. Wo kann man segeln? 8.
