Umberto Eco 1932 - 1916 art as epistemological metaphor "... In a world in which the discontinuity of the phenomena has put in question the opportunity for a uniform and definite picture of the world, it (The Open Work as epistemological metaphor) shows a way how we see this world in which we live, and thus recognize and integrate our sensitivity. An open work is deeply committed to give us an idea of the discontinuity: it does not tell about it, it is it. It mediates between the abstract category of science and the living matter of our sensibility and thus appears as a kind of transcendental schema that allows us to capture new aspects of the world.
