I use this as a starter, often at the start of a revision lesson at the end of a topic . Students work in pairs. Give each pair a copy of the blank grid – I normally do this on A3. Show them the completed grid for 1 minute. In silence and with no writing they have to try to remember as much of the vocab as they can. Take the grid off the board. In pairs they have 1 minute to fill in as much as they can. If necessary you can then show them the grid again in silence and with no writing. Go through the answers – pairs can swap their sheets for marking. Then show the coloured grid and give them 1 minute to find as many links as they can – e.g. the green background is for future time phrases and underlined are verbs in the present tense.
