4 Asking questions How many question words do you know in German? Wer?
Wann? Wie lange? Warum? Wie? Wie viele? Was? Welche? Was für? Wo? Wohin? Woher?

5 Asking questions REMEMBER that in German the verb is always the second idea. You revised this last lesson with inversion. e.g. Ich höre jeden Tag Musik  Jeden Tag höre ich Musik. The same rule is true for when you form questions. e.g. Wie kaufst du Musik? Can you figure out how to ask the following questions in German? What is your favourite music group called? How many CDs do you have? How often do you listen to music on the radio? Wie heißt deine Lieblingsgruppe? Wie viele CDs hast du? Wie oft hörst du Musik im Radio?

‘Musikkritik: Speed Dating’ worksheet with questions for activity available at Instructions: Line up students in two rows facing each other. Hand each student a question from the ‘Musikkritik: Speed Dating’ worksheet. Students to ask each other their questions. After 1 minute, ring the bell and the students swap questions with each other and then move one seat clockwise and resume questioning one another.

Welche Wo Wie viele Instructions: Students to work in pairs. Student 1 starts off on the pink hexagon on the left, whereas student 2 begins with the purple hexagon on the right. The aim of the game is to get to the other side of the board. In order to do this, students must ask a question beginning with the word on the hexagon. They may only pick a hexagon that is touching a question word that they have already used.
