He washes himself every morning. She puts on makeup before she goes to work. I get nicely dressed. (I dress myself nicely.) I want to get nicely dressed. (I want to nicely dress myself.)

Reflexive Pronouns – dative If the function of the reflexive pronoun is an indirect object then the dative case is used. If we use the following accusative reflexive example: Ich wasche mich, then the expression in English is a very general statement: “I’m getting washed” or “I wash myself”. If we want to specifically express a part of one’s body, then we use the dative. For example: Ich wasche mir die Hände. While in English, one would use the possessive adjective (my hands), the German expression uses the dative reflexive pronouns.
