Phanomkorn Namchan, Maetha, Thailand Phanomkorn Namchan in Ban Maetha grows 70 varieties of fruit & vegetables, has 2 cows and a dozen chicken on 2,5 rai = 0,4 hectare, in 2002 he earned about 700 baht on weekends and about 40-50 baht on workdays rom selling his produce on a market in Chiang Mai. „The hardest change was the change in my head“, he says. Converting the farm to an organic biodiverse operation implied quite some hardship for him and his family. Only in the third year the was able to make more money than with presicides and artificial fertilizers. Now he makes about twice the money and leads a healthy life. His kids go to school and he can even use the car of the Maetha Sustainable Agricultural Cooperative he has founded with 15 other farmers.
