Der Winter ist ein rechter Mann, The winter is a proper man, Kernfest und auf die Dauer; Strong of core and long lasting; Sein Fleisch fühlt sich wie Eisen an His flesh has the feel of iron Und scheut nicht Süß noch Sauer. And he dreads neither sweet nor sour.

2 Er zieht sein Hemd im Freien an He puts his shirt on in the open air
Und lässt's vorher nicht wärmen, And doesn’t let it warm up first, Und spottet über Fluss im Zahn And makes light of a flowing tooth Und Kolik in Gedärmen. And colic in the bowels.

3 Aus Blumen und aus Vogelsang From flowers and from bird song
Weiß er sich nichts zu machen, He knows nothing of them, Hasst warmen Drang und warmen Klang Hates warm urges and warm sound Und alle warmen Sachen.  And all warm things.
