2 Film-Lektüre: Jenseits der Stille

3 GOALS The goals are three-fold –
To familiarise the students with reading useful day-to-day texts such as a film or a book synopsis and review To help students develop reading strategies to understand a text globally and identify information that is relevant to them To introduce students to German cinema

4 STEP 1: SETTING THE CONTEXT
The teacher asks the students leading questions – Geht ihr gern ins Kino? Habt ihr deutsche Filme gesehen? Welche? Kennt ihr deutsche Schauspieler(in)? Regisseur(in)?  The aim is to activate the students prior knowledge about German films and encourage them to speak in an no-pressure environment.

5 STEP 2: Vor dem Lesen 1 Bevor ihr einen Film seht, was macht ihr?

6 Vor dem Lesen 2 The teacher asks the students –
Worum geht es in dem Film? The class brainstorms together – Liebe? Familie? Leidenschaft? Sprache? Musik? Verstaendigung?

7 Step 3: While reading 1 In this first task, the students are are asked to identify or underline the important characters that appear in the film.  The aim of this exercise is help the students speed-read or skim the text for important information.

8 While reading 2 In this second task, the students read statements related to the text and answer if they are true or false. Sample exercise –

9 While reading 3 In this third task, the students are required to read the text closely to find answers to the questions and mark them in the text. Sample questions – Wie hilft Lara ihren Eltern? Warum will Laran nach Berlin? Warum ist Laras Vater wütend und eifersüchtig?  The aim of this exercise is to test the students’ comprehension of the film synopsis.

10 Step 3. Nach dem Lesen The teacher asks the students the following questions to stimulate a dialogue about the importance of language and communication Wie kommunizieren wir? Wie wichtig ist die Sprache? Was führt manchmal zu Missverständnissen zwischen uns? Glaubt ihr, dass es hilft, darüber zu sprechen? Warum? Warum nicht?

11 Step 4: homework The students are asked to write a small paragraph about something they are passionate about and how it impacted their life in an important way. Pointers – Was machst du in deiner Freizeit? Wie oft liest du? Wie oft treibst du Sport? Wie oft spielst du Gitarre? Welche Bedeutung hat Fussball/Guitarre/Bücher für dich?
