4 Question words It is very important for you to understand question words (where, when etc..) so that you fully understand the question and answer it correctly. At GCSE, students are often asked a question, answer it in good German but have answered the wrong thing. E.g. When are your holidays? in Greece

5 What do the questions mean? Was ist das? (What is that?) Wer ist das? Das ist mein Bruder, Andrew. (Who is that?) Wo wohnt Andrew? Er wohnt in Woking. (Where does A live?) Wann hast du Geburtstag? (When is your Bday?) Wie gehts? Gut! (How are you?) Wohin gehst du? Ins Café. (Where are you going to?) Warum spielst du Tennis? (Why do you play tennis?)

Um 11 Uhr? At what time are you playing Tennis? Mit wem spielst du Tennis? Mit Tom. With whom are you playing? Für wie lange spielst du? Für 30 Minuten. How long are you playing for?
