1 Eine vollständige Backup- und Recovery-Lösung für Oracle
EMC NETWORKER MODULE FOR DATABASES AND APPLICATIONS – NUTZUNG MIT ORACLE Eine vollständige Backup- und Recovery-Lösung für Oracle Note to Presenter: Present to customers and prospects who are running Oracle databases that need to be protected. This provides an overview of the advantages of data protection for Oracle through NetWorker and the NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications. Today, we will discuss NetWorker and how it can help you simplify backup and recovery for Oracle.

2 Herausforderungen für die IT-Abteilung
2010 1,2 Zettabyte 2020 35,2 Zettabyte RIESIGE DATENMENGEN BUDGETDILEMMA Reaffirming IDC’s study is the fact that in 2010 there were 1.2 zettabytes of information. That’s a trillion billion—a massive amount of information to be managed. It is estimated that by 2020, there will be 35 zettabytes of information. Our data deluge will grow 36-times this decade. This growth is putting a strain on backup windows, storage costs, and management. IT organizations are not as dissatisfied with the amount of money they’re spending on their IT, as they are with the fact that nearly three-quarters, or 73 percent, goes to maintaining existing legacy systems, both infrastructure and applications. Customers complain about the complexity of their backup solutions. The feeling is that too much time, expertise, and effort is spent keeping the current recovery system(s) afloat. They want the backup process to be less costly, and need less supervision and administrative attention. Infrastructure is the foundation of IT so that’s what changes first. In 2009, an important trend surfaced when virtual servers began being delivered in greater numbers than physical servers, (i.e., we have reached a tipping point). Server virtualization changes the environment in both subtle and profound ways. In many shops today, backup methods have been barely altered to accommodate this new virtual infrastructure so it’s important to lay the proper data protection foundation early on. And now you must ensure compliance with regulatory and litigation requirements and can no longer rely on past traditional practices of simply keeping tape backups around for years and years. 3 Kontinuierliche Entwicklung
Backup-Software Backup- Speicher Disaster-Recovery- Speicher Archivierung Transformativ Herkömmlich Backup- Software Band Band Band/optisch So given the pressure to reduce backup windows and costs, it is not surprising that a transition has been underway—first from tape to disk and then disk-enabled deduplication backup solutions. The transition to deduplication includes storage systems that can be implemented with existing backup software applications and, more increasingly, new software solution that delivers deduplication at the client. These deduplication solutions provide more efficient backup and restore capabilities. In fact, 48 percent of large enterprises have implemented deduplication, according to a 2011 storage study by TheInfoPro. Archiving has undergone a significant transformation as well. Early archive solutions were based on tape and optical solutions, providing cost-effective, long-term storage of data, albeit with limited performance. Archiving played an increasing role in helping organizations reduce backup windows, with customers “archiving before backup” to help them reduce the amount of data to be backed up. Deduplication has effectively eliminated that requirement, but archiving remains a valuable tool for addressing compliance and discovery requirements. 4 EMC entwickelt Backup-Lösungen stetig weiter
Optimales Zusammenspiel von Software und Speicher Verbesserungen: Performance: Bis zu 50 % schneller als herkömmliche Lösungen Einfachheit: Eine Benutzeroberfläche – gemeinsames Policy-Management Vorhersehbarkeit: Bewährte Best Practices – mehr als  Installationen INTEGRIERTE ARCHITEKTUR Schutz- speicher Backup-Software EMC continues to evolve backup and recovery. EMC leads the market in integration of both software and storage systems...designed to work together. Through an integrated deduplication architecture, EMC is able to break the mold of more conventional approaches being used to deploy deduplication. Performance increases by distributing the deduplication process across the backup path—50 percent faster in most cases. Integrated solutions are easier to use because they allow a more unified view of the entire solution to simplify configuration, day-to-day administration, and reporting. Solution behavior is more predictable, making it easier to size and scale out the solution as needs grow. And finally, it’s easier to support. This all adds up to provide an easier approach to redesign, forming a next-generation backup foundation for the future.

5 EMC und Oracle Gemeinsame Vision
Geringere Total Cost of Ownership durch Konsolidierung, Standardisierung und Automatisierung Streben nach maximaler Kundenzufriedenheit Globale IT-Produktion von Oracle stützt sich auf EMC Oracle nutzt mehr als 3 PB an EMC Systemen Entwicklung und Tests von Oracle-Datenbanken finden auf EMC Systemen statt Erster am Markt mit neuen Best Practices und Produkten zur Kostensenkung White Papers und neue gemeinsame Produkte Technologievorschau und technische Diskussionen (live) Gemeinsame Lösungen zur schnelleren Wertschöpfung Gemeinsame Support-Services zur Risikominderung EMC and Oracle have had a longstanding partnership for many years, dating as far back as EMC has worked with Oracle to help bring solutions to market. Now many years later, the companies have over 70,000 common customers—evidence that the investments EMC makes in partnering make a difference in the market. In 2001, Oracle worked with EMC to open the first Joint Escalation Center—housing full-time support staff from Oracle, co-located with EMC support at facilities in North America, EMEA, and Asia/Pacific. These centers are a dedicated point of support escalation, offering “follow-the-sun” support for all customers. Oracle has technology centers in Atlanta, GA and Reston, VA that house data centers and top engineering experts. EMC represents over 80 percent of the storage infrastructure in these Oracle facilities. EMC has over 100 TB of infrastructure, together with engineering leads available for live demonstrations and briefings. Today Oracle relies on over 3 PB of EMC infrastructure to support its largest revenue-generating applications—in development and testing. And similarly, EMC leverages Oracle—and has one of the largest Oracle implementations in the world. This commitment delivers value to customers. Early access to Oracle beta code ensures products are brought to market, engineering proven, and hardened for real-world use. Testing and documentation of Reference Architectures combining multiple EMC/Oracle products—coupled with detailed configuration guides showing the exact configurations—help ensure that solutions can be set up, configured, and in production swiftly and surely. And as your solutions work for you day in and day out, EMC and Oracle behind the solutions help you reduce risk and be successful.

6 Herausforderungen beim Schutz von Oracle
Oracle-Datenbanken sind geschäftskritisch Rasantes Datenwachstum Exponentielles Backup-Wachstum Entspricht im Allgemeinen dem 4- bis 30-Fachen der Produktionskapazität Tägliche, wöchentliche und monatliche vollständige Backups werden Monate oder Jahre aufbewahrt Benutzerproduktivität hängt von Verfügbarkeit von Tools und Daten ab Nicht alle Backup-Lösungen für Oracle bieten die nötigen Funktionen Let’s start by focusing on the issues around Oracle that contribute to backup and recovery challenges. For many companies, Oracle databases are at the core of running the business. As you know, this is an age of unprecedented—and unavoidable—data growth. This is true of Oracle data as well. Every gigabyte of growth in the production environment means 4- to 30-times that amount for backup. One of the biggest challenges facing every customer today is how to manage and keep up with this growth while avoiding downtime so users who rely on the data and application are as productive as possible for the business. Because of this, companies invest significantly in technologies that ensure data and applications are highly-available and protected to ensure recovery whenever needed. There are a range of solutions on the market, but what you’ll find is that not all backup solutions being used in the market deliver needed capabilities. It’s important to match your needs with a solution that meets those needs while simplifying operations and ensuring swift recoverability.

7 Argumente für EMC NetWorker
Zentrales Management Branchenführende Datendeduplizierung Erweiterte Anwendungsunterstützung Umfangreiche Backup-to-Disk- Funktionen Geeignet für virtuelle und physische Umgebungen Zuverlässige Wiederherstellbarkeit NetWorker helps organizations control costs by bringing management and control of the entire information environment into one central offering. NetWorker leverages this centralized, broad protection to bridge the gap between traditional backup and deduplication backup and enables new backup technologies to be introduced nondisruptively into complex IT operations by providing a common platform for both. Here are the reasons why users choose NetWorker. It... Provides centralized control of traditional and deduplicated backups Features support for virtual environments Has industry-leading data deduplication support through integration with EMC Avamar and EMC Data Domain. By leveraging Avamar and Data Domain deduplication, NetWorker helps users reduce the amount of data to back up and dramatically reduces the amount of disk storage needed to retain and protect data—without adding administrative complexity—by providing a common management interface and backup workflow.  Provides advanced backup-to-disk capabilities, snapshots, replication, NAS backup to disk, and backup to disk with vault to cloud. Delivers enterprise performance, security, and analytics. Simply put, nothing securely backs up, recovers, and scales like NetWorker. Integrates with EMC RecoverPoint for continuous data protection (CDP) and continuous remote replication (CRR). Provides better recoverability from tape backups by leveraging a future-proof open tape format with better recoverability from damaged tape media.

8 Module for Databases and Applications
Einheitliches Modul für DB2, Informix, Lotus, Oracle und Sybase Einfache Bestellung, Lizenzierung, Installation und Upgrades Vereinfachte, gemeinsame assistentengesteuerte Konfiguration und Workflows Integrierte Deduplizierung Snapshot-Management Ereignisbasiertes Backup VMware-Integration EMC NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications NetWorker delivers complete protection for Oracle, DB2, Informix, Sybase, and Lotus through the NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications, which combines five of your mission-critical databases and applications into a single module. This unified protection makes ordering, licensing, and maintenance easier than ever before. The wizard-driven tools within NetWorker Management Console simplifies the configuration of backup jobs. As with the NetWorker Management Console applications, the Module for Databases and Applications provides auto-discovery and auto-population for ensuring that backup jobs are configured easily and accurately. Now you can use industry-leading deduplication—Data Domain (including DD Boost support) and Avamar—to help protect your data as well, all managed seamlessly by NetWorker. Depending on your needs, you are able to defuse the explosion of backup data by substantially reducing the time it takes for backup and restore operations, the network impact, and the storage required for backup. Whichever backup method you choose, the NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications provides centralized management and helps control costs by reducing the amount of administration required to manage more complex environments. NetWorker leads the market for snapshot management. PowerSnap provides a point-in-time backup from the snapshot. A unique NetWorker capability is event-based backup. Event-based backups use a NetWorker function known as Probes to trigger backups based on some external event other than a scheduled time. For example, you might have an Oracle database that has sporadic activity. Rather than relying on normal data and time for backups, you can let database activity determine when backups take place. You could create a Probe that says, “When 25 log files are generated, run a backup.” With NetWorker, you can protect your databases within a virtual machine. This support extends not just to in-guest protection, but also if you are using VMware vMotion, Distributed Resource Scheduler, or High Availability as guests potentially move based on the dynamic environment. NetWorker will have no problem executing backups or processing restores appropriately wherever the virtual machine happens to be in the VMware infrastructure.

9 Oracle – Funktionen Integriert in Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN)
NetWorker Integriert in Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) Vereinfacht Backup und Recovery von Oracle Assistentengesteuerte Konfiguration Remote Updates durch Push-Installation Integrierte Deduplizierung Snapshot-Management Ereignisbasierte Backups Integration in VMware NetWorker delivers complete Oracle protection through the NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications. Here’s a high-level summary featuring Oracle protection. NetWorker integrates with Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN)—Oracle’s recommended backup and recovery interface for its databases. Through this integration, NetWorker simplifies backup and recovery for Oracle and is able to tie Oracle server protection into several core features, including wizard-driven configuration and push installation. NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications has value-added features available to help reduce backup impact and required storage. This includes integrated deduplication and snapshot management functionality that we’ll discuss in detail later. Additionally, an exclusive feature called event-based backup helps deliver more effective backup operations based on probing for conditions rather than starting merely by time. The world is moving increasingly to operation in virtual server environments to gain the benefits of consolidation and flexible availability. NetWorker and its Oracle support integrate with VMware, delivering in-guest, application-consistent protection and supporting environments that leverage VMware technologies such as Distributed Resource Scheduler, vMotion, and High Availability that move and migrate virtual machines in a VMware environment. And finally, a benefit of NetWorker support is that it is tested and certified in a broad range of operating systems and environments.

10 Integration in RMAN EMC NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications ist vollständig vorgabenkonform und integriert in Oracle RMAN RMAN wird von Oracle empfohlen und in der Branche standardmäßig für Backup und Recovery von Datenbanken genutzt Vorteile der Integration in RMAN: Backup und Wiederherstellung vollständiger Datenbanken, individueller Dateien, Tablespaces und Protokolle Automatisches und flexibles Backup Automatische und flexible Recovery NetWorker delivers full integration and is fully compliant with Oracle Recovery Manager or RMAN. Through this integration, NetWorker delivers complete backup and recovery for Oracle databases, including the ability to capture and protect databases, individual data files, table spaces, and logs—all of the things that comprise an Oracle installation. NetWorker is able to provide backup for Oracle whether Oracle is online or offline and through RMAN. Other highlights include the ability to deliver block-level incremental backups, which helps ensure backups are fast and capturing the unique changes to the data. Through RMAN, block corruption detection and surgical recovery of any detected corrupted blocks help ensure data is accurate and recoverable. The solution compresses any unused blocks to save time, space, and bandwidth. And, RMAN delivers restartable backups from the point of failure for interrupted backups—very helpful, especially for very large databases. Through Oracle’s Data Recovery Advisor, any issues encountered and diagnosed are automatically repaired. All of these capabilities help ensure recovery, which is the primary goal. By providing automatic log management, NetWorker is able to bring the database back to a point-in-time, thereby restoring all data and replaying any needed logs to provide a complete restore. And finally, not only can you restore back to where the data came from, but in cases where there is other or new hardware in place, NetWorker will restore the data to an alternate location.

11 Vereinfachung von Oracle-Backup und Recovery
Intuitiver Assistent vereinfacht die Konfiguration Schnelle Planung von Backups und Policys Erzeugt Backup- und Recovery-Skripte für RMAN Einfache Auswahl von Backup-Optionen, einschließlich Deduplizierung Softwareverwaltungsassis tent ermöglicht Remote Updates „Client-Push“ vereinfacht kontinuierliches Management Note to Presenter: View in Slide Show mode for animation. For Oracle protection, NetWorker features tools that simplify configuration and ongoing management. Two examples of these are shown here. The first is NetWorker’s wizard interface—a guided walkthrough of the options and steps available for creating and editing backup jobs. This helps you quickly establish scheduled backups and policies, including deduplication. This generates the RMAN scripts needed for either backup or restore. These scripts are required to initiate the appropriate operation with RMAN. The second feature that helps ongoing management of Oracle environments is compatibility with NetWorker’s software administration wizard. This enables remote software updates for NetWorker software on any of the Oracle servers in the NetWorker datazone. This helps simplify the backup administrator’s job of updating between versions.

14 Deduplizierungsmanagement mit NetWorker
Einheitliche Lösung mit branchenführender Deduplizierung Avamar Data Domain Integrierte Software und Hardware Anwenderfreundlichkeit Vorhersehbarkeit Wartungsfreundlichkeit Managing Avamar and Data Domain with NetWorker couldn’t be easier. Based on your requirements, NetWorker provides the ability to enable deduplication based on policy where and when you need it. The NetWorker solution is built on industry-leading solutions with Avamar and Data Domain. And because it is an integrated software and hardware solution, it is simpler to use, gives you more predictable operation, and is easier to support.

15 Dateisysteme und Anwendungen
NetWorker und Avamar Dateisysteme und Anwendungen Unterstützt Dateisysteme und Anwendungen Physisch und virtuell Management von herkömmlichen Backups sowie Backups mit Deduplizierung Ein Client oder Anwendungsmodul Gemeinsame Administration Vollständige Indexierung und Suche Gemeinsame Recovery Optimiert für VMware, NAS und Remote-Standorte NetWorker Avamar The common, combined NetWorker and Avamar client allows deduplication to be defined through standard NetWorker backup client configurations in NetWorker Management Console for file systems and application modules. This includes support for Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint, and Hyper-V as well as Oracle, SAP, DB2, Informix, Lotus Notes, and Sybase. This support is applicable to both physical and virtual environments. NetWorker’s support is ideal, especially for existing users, because it does not force users to learn a different workflow or GUI. And because users may wish to deploy and manage a mix of traditional and deduplication backup, NetWorker allows the backup client to have both deduplication and non-deduplication or traditional backup jobs defined. By allowing the components of the deduplication solution to be managed through NetWorker Management Console, it helps users simplify operations. Results of client backups with or without deduplication are available through common NetWorker Management Console reporting and monitoring tools. Recovery of any client and any data is possible through common recovery interfaces—graphical or command line. Optimized for use cases: VMware, NAS, ROBO, desktop/laptop Compelling when network or data movement causes bottlenecks, backup window unmet, client server workflow is slow.
What EMC has found in practice is that for Oracle, some data is quite appropriate for backup with deduplication, benefitting from data reduction and some is not as well suited. The good news is that NetWorker lets you apply both traditional and deduplication backup as appropriate. You can selectively deduplicate the Oracle data that benefits from deduplication and leverage traditional backup where it delivers best performance. For recovery, NetWorker restores the right data seamlessly from wherever it is stored. For full backups of the entire database, file, and tablespace data, you can expect savings from deduplication, and it makes sense to apply deduplication here. On differential and incremental backups, which are dealing with uniquely changed blocks since a previous backup, there will be little or no benefit from deduplication The data is better suited to a traditional backup operation avoiding any overhead from a deduplication process. For logs, which represent the changes that have been made to an Oracle database between points-in-time, again deduplication doesn’t offer much as the logs mainly consist of unique transaction data. Again a standard NetWorker backup is the right choice. NetWorker lets you configure all of these options easily to all work together. For recovery, NetWorker pulls data from the right storage areas appropriately to enable a complete restore. This is a unique benefit of blending traditional and deduplication backup with NetWorker. 17 Management von Avamar über NetWorker
Here’s how Avamar’s integration within NetWorker will look to the backup administrator. The same familiar NetWorker interface is used to manage the deduplication functionality, meeting the challenge of simplifying administration and driving greater ease of use while providing powerful functionality. Define the Avamar Data Store just like you’d define a NetWorker storage node. Avamar allows replication between grids, so you can also tell NetWorker about this replication, configured separately, in the grid. NetWorker will use the replication node information to automatically recover data from the replication grid if the original grid is down. Attributes were added to client resources to enable deduplication. A user can create new deduplication client, or convert an existing one. Users will also manage client resources using the same workflows as before. Turning on deduplication for a client couldn’t be simpler. There’s a checkbox to choose deduplication backup or not. Plus NetWorker gives you the option to send different clients’ data to different grids, or use the same deduplication node with clients from different NetWorker servers, so you have a great deal of flexibility. Backup statistics and backup status reports will automatically include information on deduplication savesets. Additionally, NetWorker Management Console offers a detailed deduplication backup summary report.

18 NetWorker und Data Domain
Dateisysteme und Anwendungen Verwendung mit vorhandenen festplatten oder VTL-basierten Funktionen Verwendung mit Data Domain Boost Verbesserte Performance Clone-gesteuerte Replikation Automatische Konfiguration Überwachung und Reporting Optimiert zur Bänderreduzierung und replikation sowie für effizientere Backups von Anwendungen NetWorker Data Domain deduplication storage systems dramatically reduce the amount of disk storage needed to retain and protect data. Data Domain is ideal for use with existing NetWorker disk-based or virtual tape library (VTL) capabilities. The combination of NetWorker and Data Domain allows for centralized, automated, and accelerated data protection across your enterprise. Another advantage of Data Domain is that it can be deployed quickly and fits into current backup workflows and policies. It provides an alternative to disk and tape volume pools and is optimized for sequential read and write operations. With Data Domain Boost capabilities, users will get advanced capabilities when using NetWorker and Data Domain together, including improved performance, clone-controlled replication, automated configuration, and monitoring and reporting. 19 Vorteile von Data Domain Boost
Deduplizierung verteilt auf: Backup-Server Anwendungsclients NetWorker-Clients Höhere Backup- Geschwindigkeit Weniger Netzwerkverkehr Clone-gesteuerte Replikation Replikationsplanung Katalogerkennung replizierter Kopien Anwenderfreundlichkeit Automatische Konfiguration Überwachung und Reporting DD Boost DD Boost Neu NetWorker Data Domain This integration optimizes the interface between the NetWorker and the Data Domain storage system, and distributes part of the deduplication process to NetWorker storage nodes/servers and application clients protected by NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications 2.3 and higher, NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications 1.2 and higher, and the NetWorker Module for SAP 4.2 and higher. Application hosts include Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, and SQL Server; DB2; Informix; Lotus; Oracle; Sybase; and SAP. New for NetWorker 8.0 is the ability to run DD Boost on the NetWorker client itself. This is for protection of file systems as well as VADP proxies and expands all the benefits of deduplication for the NetWorker client. One difference to point out with DD Boost at the application client and NetWorker client compared to the storage node support released with NetWorker 7.6 SP1 is that the segment processing is happening from the backup client—not through a storage node. DD Boost enables efficient data transport over the LAN directly to a Data Domain system. This is driving new efficiency for NetWorker customers who use Data Domain. This is outside of a storage node or dedicated storage node implementation so there’s no requirement that the module client be a storage node to use DD Boost. The Data Domain replication process is managed by standard NetWorker cloning, ensuring that NetWorker can recognize and manage a replicated (remote) copy of data and assign unique retention policies to it. This can all be scheduled to run at the times chosen as most appropriate by the administrator. NetWorker Management Console provides wizard-based tools to simplify the deployment of the solution and simplify the configuration of backups to Data Domain. NetWorker Management Console uses SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) to capture status information and alerts, and has customized panels and reports that reflect the uniqueness of Data Domain.

Here’s are additional views into the Data Domain integration within NetWorker. Here you can see how the NetWorker Management Console uses SNMP traps to capture status information and alerts and has customized panels and reports that reflect the uniqueness of Data Domain.

21 Integriertes Snapshot-Management

Now, you can centralize command and control of the management of these replication processes through the backup application instead of writing scripts to coordinate snapshot taking. With the NetWorker PowerSnap module and VSS client, you are able to tell an external system when to take a copy of application data and index it within the backup and recovery database as a valid backup. For instance, you can tell a VNX running the SnapView replication software to take a copy of the database coordinated through NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications and RMAN to ensure that the data is in a consistent state when the copy is made. This integration not only enables fast and consistent operational backup and recovery, but it also allows backup to disk or tape to occur offline, without impacting the mission-critical application server. This process is often referred to as “live backup.” Tapes can be created and sent offsite for disaster recovery purposes. At any time, recovery can be accomplished from a snapshot or from tape as needed. All of these capabilities—scheduling, creating, retaining, and deleting snapshots—can be enabled by policies. Festplatte ist voll – Backup ausführen Jahresabschluss wurde gerade erstellt – Backup ausführen Protokollverzeichnis enthält zu viele Protokolle – Backup ausführen Next, let’s look at event-based backup, a NetWorker and NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications capability for protection. Event-based backups use a feature in NetWorker known as Probes to trigger backups based on some external event other than a scheduled time. As data can be quite dynamic, it may be that the best time to back up may not always be on a scheduled day and time. It may be that some condition of the application server is a better indicator of when a backup is needed, for instance, when a disk is full, a business condition exists, or a log count requires backup. Here is an event-based backup scenario. A customer has an Oracle server with sporadic activity. The user has decided to let database activity determine when backups take place. The user creates a Probe that regularly checks the database for the following scenarios: If more than 25 log files have been generated since last event-based backup or If no event-based backup has occurred for 11 days Then, if either of these conditions is met, a backup will be run inside the desired backup window at 8:00 p.m. The administrator could also create a custom script if desired. On the next Probe, NetWorker discovers that 25 logs have been generated. This triggers the backup, which runs the next week night at 8:00 p.m. This is now a standard feature of NetWorker 7.5 and higher with the NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications. IN-GUEST Unterstützung für VMware vSphere 5 Unterstützung für Deduplizierung Anwendungskonsistentes Backup auf Guest-Ebene Snapshot-basiertes, hostunabhängiges Backup mit vStorage API for Data Protection (VADP) Softwareunterstützung für Data Domain Boost Automatische Erkennung und Visualisierung NetWorker supports VMware’s latest release of vSphere 4 and 5. It offers several protection options that help companies, regardless of their current adoption level of server virtualization. Key to VMware backup is deduplication. You can deploy LAN backup of individual virtual machines through the NetWorker client and application modules. This is just like you’re accustomed to doing in your physical environments, but translates to the virtual guest. It offers granular protection of file systems for all supported operating systems, and also enables application-consistent backups by communicating with the applications running in the virtual machine. With the VMware vStorage API for Data Protection (VADP), NetWorker is able to deliver off-host protection of virtual machines in the vSphere Server infrastructure. Also supported is Data Domain Boost Software on the Proxy Server. You gain the benefits of deduplication including faster backups and reduced network traffic with DD Boost and Off-Host protection. It’s important to note that NetWorker not only delivers the flexibility to choose how you’ll back up your data on VMware, it also provides a choice of using traditional backup methods—backup to tape, backup to disk, backup to virtual tape—and supports the choice of deduplication backup for the VMware environment.
