Quick Review! Pronouns Ich = I Du = you Er = he Sie = she Es = it Wir = We Ihr = You all Sie = They or Formal You

How do we conjugate verbs in the Present Tense? We look at the subject in the sentence. Ex : Er? Sie? Du? Then we take the ending that matches the subject and conjugate the verb. Ich -e Wir -en Du -st Ihr -t Er/Sie/Es Sie

What do these sentences mean? Ich mag Spaghetti.  Ich mag Deutsch.  Ich mag Musik!  Was magst du? Ich mag Pepsi nicht.  Ich mag Wanzen (Bugs) nicht!!!  Ich mag Justin Bieber nicht. 

Mögen This verb means “to like something or someone”. Here is how to conjugate it! Ich mag Wir mögen Du magst Ihr mögt Er/Sie/Es Sie

Now what about “nicht”? We use “nicht” when we want to make a sentence negative. For example: “I like candy” is a positive sentence. But “I don’t like candy” is a negative sentence. So when we use “nicht” with the verb mögen it means “ don’t like”. Ich mag Pepsi nicht.

Let’s Practice! We like Pizza! Wir mögen Pizza.

You like School or You don’t like School. Answer this with your own opinion. Ich mag Schule Ich mag Schule nicht.

He doesn’t like Justin Bieber. Er mag Justin Bieber nicht.

Detective Time again! So what does the verb spielen mean? David Beckham spielt Fuβball. Die Detroit Tigers spielen Baseball. Beethoven spielt Piano. Ich spiele Videospielen (Videogames).

Spielen Spielen means “to play something”. Ich spiele Wir spielen Du Sport Instrument Games and Videogames Ich spiele Wir spielen Du spielst Ihr spielt Er/Sie/Es Sie

Gern and Nicht Gern Now that we know how to say we like or don’t like to play something? We use the word “gern” and the end of a sentence to show we like to do an activity and play something. Ex “ Ich spiele Fuβball gern!” Ex “ Ich schwimme gern!”

Gern and Nicht Gern We use “nicht gern” to say we don’t like to play or do something. Ex “Sie spielt Vollyball nicht gern”. Ex “Ich lese nicht gern.” “gern” and “nicht gern” always come after the verb in a sentence.

Let’s Practice David Beckham spielt Fuβball nicht gern. True or False? False!!!

Beethoven spielt Klavier (panio) gern. True or False? True!!!

Du spielst Videospielen gern. True or False?

ENDE!!! Danke!
