Adjectives

What is an adjective? w An adjective is a describing word. w We use them to say more about nouns. w They can be placed before a noun w e.g. a new, black skirt w or sometimes after certain verbs like to be w e.g. The skirt is new and black

Lets have a look at what its like in German: w Adjective placed in front of noun: w Ich trage einen neuen Rock w Adjective placed after verb to be w Mein Rock ist neu.

If an adjective like new is placed in front of a noun like Rock the adjective needs to have an ENDING IN GERMAN!!!!! So whats the difference?

Lets look at this step by step….

Step 1: How would you say: I wear? Ich trage Step 2: How would you say: a skirt? Is it a blue/red/green or plural word? Ich trage einenRock Step 3: How would you say: black? Ich trage einenRockschwarz Step 4: Adjective ending for masc. noun? Ich trage einen schwarz en Rock

The adjective endings for all direct object nouns are as follows: masc. nouns -en fem. nouns -e neut. nouns -es plural nouns -e

Ich trage einen langen Rock einen grauen Mantel einen warmen Schal

Ich trage eine modische Hose eine bunte Mütze eine rote Lederjacke
