2 Adjectives

3 What is an ‘adjective’? An adjective is a describing word.
We use them to say more about nouns. They can be placed before a noun e.g. a new, black skirt or sometimes after certain verbs like ‘to be’ e.g. The skirt is new and black

4 Let’s have a look at what it’s like in German:
Adjective placed in front of noun: Ich trage einen neuen Rock Adjective placed after verb ‘to be’ Mein Rock ist neu.

5 So what’s the difference?
If an adjective like ‘new’ is placed in front of a noun like ‘Rock’ the adjective needs to have an ENDING IN GERMAN!!!!!

6 Let’s look at this step by step….

7 Step 1: How would you say: I wear?
Ich trage Step 2: How would you say: a skirt? Is it a blue/red/green or plural word? Ich trage einen Rock Step 3: How would you say: black? Ich trage einen schwarz Rock Step 4: Adjective ending for masc. noun? Ich trage einen schwarz en Rock

8 The adjective endings for all direct object nouns are as follows:
masc. nouns -en fem. nouns -e neut. nouns -es plural nouns -e

9 Ich trage einen langen Rock einen grauen Mantel einen warmen Schal

10 Ich trage eine modische Hose eine bunte Mütze eine rote Lederjacke

11 Ich trage ein langes Kleid ein hellblaues Hemd ein pinkes T-Shirt

12 Ich trage - coole Turnschuhe - braune Stiefel - gestreifte Socken

13 Schreibe auf Deutsch: I wear a cool T-Shirt
I wear a brown leather jacket I wear a black skirt I wear white trainers I wear a warm coat I wear blue trousers

14 Ich trage ein cooles T-Shirt
Ich trage eine braune Lederjacke Ich trage einen schwarzen Rock Ich trage weiße Turnschuhe Ich trage einen warmen Mantel Ich trage eine blaue Hose
