Possessive Adjectives Possessive Adjectives (my, your, his, our etc.) indicate ownership or belonging. Each possessive adjective corresponds to a personal pronoun. Poss. Adj. take the same endings as EIN words. They must agree in gender, case and number with the nouns they modify. Wie heißt deine Schwester? Wie ist Ihr Name? – Mein Name ist Schiller.

Poss. Adj. Notes The formal possessive Ihr (your) is capitalized, just like the formal personal pronoun Sie (you). The possessive adjective euer (your) drops the e of the stem when an ending is added: euer + e = eure euer + en = euren

Personal Pronoun Notes In the Accusative Case, ihn can mean him or it, and sie can mean her or it depending on the gender of the noun to which they refer. Kennst du meinen Freund? Ja, ich kenne ihn. Brauchst du den Computer? Na klar brauch ich ihn. Hast du meine Telefonnummer? Ich glaube, ich habe sie.

Accusative Prepositions Accusative Prepositions are prepositions that require the Accusative Case! Only Rule – the noun, pronoun or possessive adjective following an Accusative Preposition must take the Accusative Case. There are 5 – memorize them!

Acc. Preps. Notes When the preposition um is used to indicate movement around something, the word herum is often added after the place. Three Acc. Preps. often contract with the article das. durch das Zimmer = durchs Zimmer für das Auto = fürs Auto um das Haus = ums Haus
Acc. Prep. Examples Wir tun etwas gegen den Hunger. Es ist gegen fünf Uhr. Herr Krause fährt durch die Stadt. Er braucht ein Geschenk für seine Tochter. Er geht ohne seine Frau einkaufen. Die Geburtstagfeier beginnt um sechs. Er sucht einen Parkplatz und fährt dreimal um den Martkplatz herum.

Notes on wissen The verbs wissen and kennen both mean to know. Wissen means to know facts. Kennen means to know or be acquainted with a person or thing. Ich weiß deine Telefonnummer. Ich kenne Herrn Meyer nicht, aber ich weiß, wo er wohnt. Wissen is often used with indirect questions Ich weiß, wer Goethe ist. Ich weiß nicht, wo das ist.
