To make equal comparisons… Equal comparisons: something is as __ as__ z.B. Markus is as tall as John. In German, use: so ___ wie ____. z.B. Meine Schwester ist so dumm wie Paris Hilton. My sister is as dumb as Paris Hilton Mein Stiefvater ist so nett wie meine Mutter. My stepfather is as nice as my mom. Mein Freund singt so schön wie Peter Fox.

To make a negative comparison… Just add nicht. nicht so ____ wie _____. z.B. Ich bin nicht so alt wie meine Mutter. I am not as old as my mother Dein Bruder ist nicht so hässlich wie Kramer. Your brother is not as ugly as Kramer. Ich bin nicht so laut wie du. I am not as loud as you.

To make unequal comparisons… In English: Something is ___er than ___. I am taller than you. In German, use: (adj. or adv.)+er als ______. To make the comparison, just add –er to the end of most adjectives or adverbs Ich bin schöner als du. Meine Freundin ist intelligenter als meine Schwester.

Exceptions: BUT: on most 1 syllable words, with a, o, or u, you MUST add an umlaut. z.B. alt älter groß größer klug klüger Irregular Comparisons: gut besser viel mehr gern lieber z.B. Deutsch ist besser als Spanish. =) Du spielst gern Basketball, aber ich spiele lieber Hockey.
