Relative Pronoun object of a preposition Recall from chapter 9 that relative clauses describe people, places & things and they begin with a relative pronoun. Sometimes the relative pronoun is an object of a preposition. When this occurs: The gender is still determined by the antecedent, but the case is determined by the preposition. Take, for example, these 2 sentences. Das ist der alte Mann. Sie hat mit dem Mann gearbeitet. If we combine these to create a relative clause it would be: Das ist der alte Mann, mit dem sie gearbeitet haben.

Relative Pronoun object of a preposition Here are some additional examples. Das ist die Bank. Ich arbeite bei der Bank. Das ist die Bank, bei der ich arbeite. Das ist der Zug nach Stuttgart.
