TOPICS Hydroelectric Power 1: Why using waterpower? 2: How does it work? 3: Real example of a hydroelectric power plant Hydroelectric Power 4: Disadvantages 5: Facing the current situation… 6: Offers of green electricity 7: The END.

Today, nobody can imagine a life without electronic power. No car, no computer, no phones, no TV, no washingmachine. But where does the energy come from? 1.) Fossil energy generation: -Burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas produces energy. -After burning the relevant fuel it‘s gone and can‘t be used again. Fossil fuels generated long time ago from deposits of organic materials like wood, leafes, algae, little animals etc. They can‘t be reproduced today. 2.)Nuclear energy: -Is produced in nuclear power plants from splitting of Uran/Plutonium atomics. 3.)Renewable energy: -Divides up into wind power, solar power and hydroelectric power. -Is produced with wind turbines, solar cells and water turbines

Everything`s Fine, isn`t it? What‘s wrong? -availability: coal: 190 years oil: 40-50 years gas: 60-70 years Uran: 40 years wind, sun, water: As long, as our ecosystems are still working. -environmental compatibility: -Every kind of burning generates consequently CO² emissions, which endangers our climate. -Nuclear power is dangerous and leaves radioactive waste.

How Does that work – Hydroelectric? examplesketch of a storage power plant: The current of the water is powering a turbine. The turbine is linked with the generator. The generator transferes mechanic energy into electric current. The electric current is than available for the power net. Arriving at the socket, the current is available for all kind of electrical gadgeds.

And that´s all completly evironmental friendly? Itaipú – most important energy supplier of Paraguay The Itaipú hydroelectric power plant between Brasil and Paraguay ist the biggest wordwide. Its 18 turbines have a performance of 12600 MegaWatts. It covers 24% of the total power consumption of Brasil and 95%of the total power consumption of Paraguay. And that´s all completly evironmental friendly? Disadvantages of a storage power plant: There has to be a storage lake. Possible consequences are: -People who used to live there, have to move away. -Dispossession of the inhabitants of the lake region.

Use renevable energy! Save our climate! Reduce CO²-emissions! Drive less! Save energy! Our planet is warming! Caution: GLOBAL WARMING!

Facing the current situation… At the G8 summit it was decided, to halve the CO²-emissions until 2050. That means much more electricity generation with renewable energy. One possibility is hydroelectric power. A possibility to save our planet from the terrible consequences of the global warming. The energy winnable from the natural offer of the renewable energies exceeds the current power consuption of the whole world about six times.

No CO²: Green Electricity – Offers: Criteria for „clean“ green electricity: -No cooperation with nuclear power plants! This way, you support nuclear power plants. -Supporting of construction of new equipment to generate renewable energy -Concurrency of generation and buy-off of the consumers, wherefore power-heat coupling is so far still necessary -Supporting of the so far still very expensive photovoltaics Keinerlei Verflechtungen mit der Atomwirtschaft!
