SEPARABLE VERBS. Separable verbs have prefixes on them. These prefixes are adverbs and prepositions that are detached from the verb when it is conjugated.
The imperative tense is also known as the command forms. When giving commands, you can use only the understood subjects “you” or “we” in English. In German,

In English Phrasal Verbs: Verb + Preposition = new meaning Hang out, hang up, blow out, blow up, get up, hang on, work out, work off, etc.

Phrasal Verbs Some are separable, some are not Separable: We worked our problems out. Inseparable: I hung up the phone.

German German is exactly the same Preposition + verb = new meaning Rufen: to shout, to call + An: at, on ______________________________ Anrufen: to call someone on the phone

Separable Prefixes In German, the preposition goes at the beginning of the word. (prep+verb) The preposition (aka the prefix) can be separable or inseparable Separable: einkaufen (to shop) Inseparable: besuchen (to visit)

How to conjugate Step 1: Remove the prefix. Step 2: Conjugate normally. Step 3: Place prefix at the end of the sentence. Jeden Sonntag rufe ich meine Mutter an. Hector bringt seine Schwester ins Kino mit.
