In German, certain adjectives are often used with certain prepositions. In such cases, dative prepositions will take dative objects, accusative prepositions will take accusative objects. Two- way prepositions (Wechselpräpositionen) may take either the accusative case or the dative case. Ich bin verrückt nach dir. Er ist sehr böse auf mich. Wir sind dankbar für diesen Tag. Nach is a dative preposition, so the object is in the dative case. (dir) für is an accusative preposition, so the object is in the accusative case. (diesen) Auf is a two-way preposition so you cannot tell by looking at it which case it takes….you must learn these on an individual basis

begeistert von (dat) bereit zu (dat) böse auf (acc) fähig zu (dat) gespannt auf (acc) gewöhnt an (acc) interessiert an (dat) neidisch auf (acc) sicher vor (dat) stolz auf (acc) überzeugt von (dat) verrückt nach (dat) wütend auf (acc) wütend über (acc) enthusiastic about ready to mad at capable of excited about used to interested in jealous about safe from proud of convinced that crazy about furious at enraged about Most two way preps used in this way are accusative. An exception is the preposition vor which normally uses the dative case.

geeignet für (acc) neugierig auf (acc) reich an (acc) rot vor (dat) schädlich für (acc) schuld an (acc) unzufrieden mit (dat) verliebt in (acc) wichtig für (acc) enthusiastic about ready to mad at capable of excited about used to interested in jealous about safe from

abhängig von (dat) angenehm für (acc) angesehen bei (dat) ärgerlich auf (acc) bekannt für (acc) beleibt bei (dat) beteiligt an (dat) beunruhigt über (acc) eifersüchtig auf (acc) einverstanden mit (dat) entsetz über (acc) enttäuscht von (dat) erfreut über (acc) not dependant on comfortable for watched by annoyed at famous for loved by take part in upset about jealous of In agreement with enraged about disappointed with happy about

Many of these expressions can incorporate a da or wo compound. Er ist dafür bekannt. Ich bin darauf gespannt. Ich bin davon überzeugt. Er ist damit unzufrieden. Wofür ist er bekannt? Worauf bist du gespannt? Wovon bist du überzeugt? Womit bist du unzufrieden? For more information about da & wo compounds, check out our video over these on this channel or visit He is famous for that. What is he famous for? I am excited about that. What are you excited about? I am convinced of that. What are you convinced of? He is not satisfied with that. What are you not satisfied with?
