DAS HABE ICH GESTERN GEMACHT! I DID HAVE DONE THAT YESTERDAY! Das Perfekt-Präsens

Was ist Perfekt Präsens? Perfekt Präsens is the progressive past. It is the version of past tense that in English sounds like “I have done that.” or “I have eaten shark meat.” It uses two verbs –  Haben or Sein  AND another verb in its past tense form. It’s used almost exclusively when speaking about the past.  Exceptions are “haben” and “sein”  Instead of ich habe eine Katze gehabt – ich hatte eine Katze.  Instead of Ich bin bei Marko gewesen – ich war bei Marko.

Forming the Past Tense of verbs Called the “Partizip II” General Rule – unless learned specifically as irregular or an exception.  Take the stem of the word  Machen  Haben  Tanzen  Add a ge- to the beginning, and a –t to the end.  Gemacht  Gehabt  Getanzt

Forming the past tense sentence When forming the past tense sentence, you can think in terms of forming Modalverb sentences. You will have a conjugated verb in the second position, and the main action verb at the end (but in a different form)  Conjugated form of haben or sein in the second position.  Past tense form of the action verb at the end of the sentence.  Ich habe auf die Straße geparkt.  Wir haben die Eintrittskarten gekauft.  Du hast eine Besichtigung gemacht.  Er ist nach Deutschland gereist. Sein is used for action verbs that specifically take you from one area to another. Haben is used for everything else!

Exception ONE Verbs that start with be-, er-, v-  Vermissen  Besuchen  Erreichen For these verbs just add a –t at the end.  Vermisst  Besucht  Erreicht

Exception TWO Verbs that end in –ieren  Trainieren  Funktionieren  Korrigieren For these verbs just at a –t at the end of the stem.  Trainiert  Funktioniert  korrigiert

Übung!! Besuchen (visit)- machen (make/do) – malen – reisen (travel)- spielen- tanzen- telefonieren- wandern 1. Helga __________ am Montag ihre Oma ____________. 2.
