Isolde singt dem toten Tristan einen ekstotischen Lobpreis oufdie Liebe und houcht an seiner Seite ihr Leben aus, da sie ein Dasein ohne il nicht ertragen kann. Le chevalier Tristan, gravement blessé lors d'un duel, gît en plein délire dans son château de Bretagne, attendant l'arrivée du navire qui transporte sa bien-aimée, la princesse irlandaise Isolde. Lorsqu'elle arrive enfin, Tristan meurt dans ses bras. Incapable de vivre sans lui, Isolde chante un hymne d'amour extatique en mémoire de Tristan, puis expire à ses cótés.
