2 Literaturseminar IPCC SS 2010 Was ist der IPCC Mandate and Membership of the IPCC Recognizing the problem of potential global climate change, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) established the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 1988. The role of the IPCC is to assess on a comprehensive, objective, open and transparent basis the scientific, technical and socio- economic information relevant to understanding the scientific basis of risk of human-induced climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation. The IPCC does not carry out research nor does it monitor climate related data or other relevant parameters. It bases its assessment mainly on peer reviewed and published scientific/technical literature. Its role, organisation, participation and general procedures are laid down in the "Principles Governing IPCC Work"Principles Governing IPCC Work

3 Literaturseminar IPCC SS 2010 Arbeitsgruppen im IPCC The IPCC has three Working Groups –Working Group I assesses the scientific aspects of the climate system and climate change.Working Group I –Working Group II assesses the vulnerability of socio-economic and natural systems to climate change, negative and positive consequences of climate change, and options for adapting to it.Working Group II –Working Group III assesses options for limiting greenhouse gas emissions and otherwise mitigating climate change.Working Group III

8 Literaturseminar IPCC SS 2010 Radiative forcing Radiative forcing is the change in the net vertical irradiance (in Wm2) at the tropopause due to an internal change or a change in the external forcing of the climate system, such as, for example, a change in the concentration of carbon dioxide or the output of the Sun. Usually radiative forcing is computed after allowing for stratospheric temperatures to readjust to radiative equilibrium, but with all tropospheric properties held fixed at their unperturbed values.

13 Literaturseminar IPCC SS 2010 Bemerkungen Die Vorträge sind teilweise aufeinander aufbauend Betonung auf der Klärung der Begriffe und auf die Nachvollziehbarkeit der Rechenschritte Aus Literaturliste des bearbeiteten Kapitels selbständig ein Originalpaper auswählen und kurz darauf eingehen. Alle Vorträge sollen erläuternde Beispiel enthalten Alle Vorträge sind mittels Beamer zu präsentieren. Die Tafel kann/soll mitgenutzt werden. Keine Plagiate aus Präsentationen früherer Jahre Empfehlung: 1 Woche vor dem Vortrag bei mir melden, sodass wir einen Entwurf durchgehen können Anwesenheit wird notiert. Am Ende des Semesters Abschlußgespräche. Ohne Abschlussgespräch Note 3 bei regelmäßiger Anwesenheit, sonst Note 4
