By establishing the visiting profes- sorship the European University Viadrina and especially its Master of European Studies program aims at promoting the international scientific exchange in social diversity studies. For this purpose visiting professors from the Bilgi University in Istanbul will be invited regularly to Frankfurt/Oder. They will teach and conduct research in the fields of diversity, migration and identity. Additional guests will complement the professorship through regular public lectures. The naming „Aziz Nesin“ symbolizes the thematic focus of the visiting professorship, concentrating on social diversity. At the same time it is reminiscent of Aziz Nesin’s literary, political and social work. Aziz Nesin (1915-1995) was a Turkish writer who spoke out for freedom of opinion and freedom of speech all his life. He founded a foundation concerned with educational projects. His four-volume autobiography “Istanbul boy” gives an insight into his life. Esra Arsan is the fourth visiting professor to hold the Aziz Nesin chair. Her public lecture in the framework of the series of lectures “Diversity, Migration and Identity” will inaugurate her visiting professorship. Esra Arsan is professor at the Institute of Social Sciences and working for the Cultural Studies program at Bilgi University in Istanbul. Aziz Nesin (1915-1995) war ein türkischer Schriftsteller, der sich zeitlebens für Meinungs- und Redefreiheit einsetzte. Mit seiner Stiftung förderte er Bildungsprojekte. Die vierteilige Autobiographie „Istanbul Boy“ gibt einen Einblick in sein Leben. Den Auftakt zur diesjährigen Gastprofessor im Rahmen der angegliederten Vortragsreihe „Diversity, Migration und Identität“ bildet der Vortrag von Prof. Dr. Esra Arsan, der vierten Inhaberin der Gastdozentur. Esra Arsan ist Professorin am Institute of Social Sciences und lehrt im Studiengang Kulturwissenschaften an der Bilgi Universität in Istanbul.
