2 The imperative tense is also known as the command forms. When giving commands, you can use only the understood subjects “you” or “we” in English. In German, they are: du, ihr, Sie and wir.

3 To give a command in the du form: 1 – Conjugate the verb to match du 2 – Drop the “st” 3 – Drop the subject du 4 – If the verb now ends in –d, -t, -ig, -m or –n, add an “e”. (Don’t add ̈. ) Du studierst Deutsch. Studier Deutsch! Lies das Buch! Lauf schnell! Warte bitte! Study German. Read the book. Run quickly. Wait please.

4 ihr To give a command in the ihr form: 1 – Conjugate the verb to match ihr 2 – Drop the subject ihr zum Bespiel: Ihr lest das Buch. Lest das Buch! Read the book.

5 To give a command in the wir or Sie form: 1 – Conjugate to match wir or Sie 2 – Switch places with subject and verb Wir essen Pizza. Essen wir Pizza! Sie fahren schnell. Fahren Sie schnell! Let’s eat pizza. Drive quickly!
