Es bietet freien Zugang für Gastnutzer. Je präziser die Suchbegriffe und deren Kombination sind, desto besser sind die Resultate. Bibliografische Information ist zumeist kostenlos, Online-Bestellungen und Volltext- Zugriff sind kostenintensiv (Abhilfe: Open Archives Initiative). Zeitschriftenartikel lassen sich mit Pay Per View auf den Bildschirm bringen (sehr teuer!)
