3 When to use it? The conditional tense is being used increasingly in the place of the subjunctive. Sie würden das Haus nicht kaufen- they would not buy the house The conditional is also used as a polite request Würden Sie bitte warten? NOTE: The conditional is never used for haben or sein!!

4 The Subjunctive Mood We all already use this in the modal verbs without realising it Ich möchte (would like)- this is a form of the subjunctive verb The subjunctive is not a tense as it can be used throughout the tenses The subjunctive is used as an alternative to the conditional tense and is mostly used with modals or in indirect speech and haben/sein

5 Subjunctive Ich habe Geld- this sentence indicates what? The subjunctive does the opposite It tells the reader what they would have done had they had the money Hätte ich das Geld, würde ich nach Europa fahren A Fact

6 How is the subjunctive formed? 8 Subjunctive in other tenses Hättest du Lust, mit uns zu gehen? Ich wäre gern mit euch gegangen = present = past
