Sie wollen sich über die Konzentration von Schwefeldioxid in der Luft informieren. Der Richtwert für Schwefeldioxid für eine 30minütige Einwirkungsdauer (60.0 µg/m³ nach europäischer Richtlinie ) wurde an der Meßstation Saarbruecken-City nicht überschritten (Grenzwert für das tropische Jahr hier auf Tageswerte bezogen). Schwefeldioxid entsteht durch Verbrennungsprozesse schwefelhaltiger Energieträger wie Kohle und Erdöl in Kraft- und Fernheizwerken sowie in der Industrie, in Haushalten und im Verkehr. Schwefeldioxid ist ein direkt wirkendes Schadgas und eine wichtige Vorläufersubstanz für saure Niederschläge. Aufgrund der langen Verweildauer in der Atmosphäre von 3 - 5 Tagen kann ein Transport über große Entfernungen stattfinden. Es gilt als sicher, daß sich die Wirkung mit anderen Luftschadstoffen (Stickoxide, Fluorwasserstoff, Schwebstoffe) additiv erhöht.
