2 Die politische Situation in Somalia im April 2017: Im Norden Somaliland und Puntland, relativ friedliche Gebiete. Speziell Somaliland wird autonom verwaltet. Im Süden die föderale Republik Somalia. Teilweise wird dieses Territorium von der islamistischen Gruppierung Al Shabab kontrolliert, die von den somalischen Regierungstruppen und der Amisom bekämpft wird. Al Shabab verübt in Mogadischu und anderen Städten Anschläge. Somalia liegt am Indischen Ozean. Im Süden grenzt Somalia an Kenia im Westen an Äthiopien und im Norden an Djibouti.

Exclusive summery This monthly situation analysis is an overview to describe of situational facts in lower Shebelle region such: humanitarian crises, livelihood impacts, in currently security updates and recognizing the needs of health care services to the lower Shebelle populations and addressing the public health risks, focusing on communicable diseases among the affected populations and reinforcement of surveillance system, Se also assessing the impact natural disasters which effected this region through community partnership and participation. Since the start of this serves, many patients including pregnant and lactating women have been provided with life-saving emergency health care. The nutrition situation remains of concern to the under 5 children many cases of acutely malnourished from October 2018 to December 2018, with severely signed malnourished children including pregnancy and lactating women. There are also an estimated people displaced in country, the majority of this displaced people, are suffering Disease outbreaks such as acute watery diarrhea (AWD)/cholera and measles continue to represent a major threat to children who have not meet protection and basic needs. Security updates A heavy battle broke out between Somali national army [SNA] forces and Al- Shabaab militants in the country’s southern Lower Shabelle region on Thursday, authorities said. The fighting flared up at Gandershe, a coastal area located on Marka road after armed fighters from Al-Shabab launched an ambush attack on an army base, The SNA officers in the village who asked to remain anonymous said the troops repulsed the attack and inflicted losses on the attackers during the gunfight between the two sides. The situation has returned normally to the area and the government forces remained in position after warding off the Al Shabaab attack on the last month.

Seit 1991 herrschen in Merka unstabile Verhältnisse. Die Region wurde seither von verschiedenen Gruppierungen beherrscht die um die Kontrolle der Ressourcen dieser auch strategisch wichtigen Region kämpften. Im September 2018 wurden die Kämpfer der Al Shabab aus Merka und der umgebenden Region von der somalischen Armee vertrieben welche nun die Stadt kontrolliert. .

Viele Gesundheitseinrichtungen in der Region Lower Shabelle sind überlastet. Durch die Kämpfe und die Fluchtbewegungen ist die Zahl der Menschen die medizinische Hilfe benötigen stark angestiegen und an Einrichtungen sind grosse Schäden entstanden. Trotz aller Widrigkeiten bleibt es das Ziel von Swisso Kalmo eine grundlegende Gesundheitsfürsorge für ärmere Familien in der Region Shabelle bereitzustellen. Patienten die an übertragbaren und nicht übertragbarer Krankheiten leiden werden betreut. Besonders wichtig für Swisso Kalmo ist die Gesundheit von Müttern und Kindern und die Geburtshilfe. Eine Aufgabe in den Ambulatorien ist auch Betreuung von Erwachsenen und Kindern die unterernährt sind. Nach wie vor organisiert Swisso Kalmo Informationsveranstaltungen zur Gesundheitserziehung.
