Wiederholung: Korrelation „Taken together, these findings support the view that males and females perform similarly in mathematics” “Overall, we conclude that a small gender difference favoring boys in complex problem solving is still present in high school.” Lindberg et al. (2010). New Trends in Gender and Mathematics Performance: A Meta-Analysis. Psychological Bulletin, 136 (6), 1123-1135. “Multiple factors may account for this gender gap. As noted earlier, girls are less likely to take physics than boys are, and complex problem solving is taught in physics classes, perhaps even more than in math classes.“ 30.05.2016Sozialpsychologie – Henrik Singmann – WiSe 2010/2011 – Session 52

30.05.2016Sozialpsychologie – Henrik Singmann – WiSe 2010/2011 – Session 43

Problem des bewussten Denkens “It is a profoundly erroneous truism, repeated by all copy-books and by eminent people making speeches, that we should cultivate the habit of thinking of what we are doing. The precise opposite is the case. Civilization advances by extending the number of operations which we can perform without thinking about them. Operations of thought are like cavalry charges in a battle—they are strictly limited in number, they require fresh horses, and must only be made at decisive moments.” (A. N. Whitehead, 1911) 30.05.2016Sozialpsychologie – Henrik Singmann – WiSe 2010/2011 – Session 57

Bewusste Prozesse Self control or self-control is the ability to control one's emotions, behavior and desires in order to obtain some reward later, and is the capacity of efficient management to the future. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self_control)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self_control “Self-control is the capacity to override one’s impulses and automatic or habitual responses, and it is the conscious and effortful form of self-regulation. Self-control includes controlling thoughts, emotions, desires, and behavior, particularly so as to bring them into line with societal or personal standards such as moral rules, laws, ideals, social norms, and prescriptive expectations.” Gailliot & Baumeister, 2007, PSPR, 11, 303-327 „We define self-regulation as the self exerting control to override a prepotent response, with the assumption that replacing one response with another is done to attain goals and conform to standards.” Vohs et al., 2008, JPSP, 94, 883-898. 30.05.2016Sozialpsychologie – Henrik Singmann – WiSe 2010/2011 – Session 58
