Conversational Past Regular Verbs: haben + ge + root + t Ich mache => Ich habe gemacht. Sie baut => Sie hat gebaut.

Conversational Past Irregular verbs haben + ge + root (look out!) + en Or: t Ich fange => Ich habe gefangen. Sie denken => Sie haben gedacht. Es zieht...

1. We pull. We pulled. 2. He thinks. He thought. 3. She catches. She caught. 4. They give. They gave. 5. I sleep. I slept.

Conversational Past Some verbs use sein instead of haben (These verbs are always irregular) Ich fliege => Ich bin geflogen Du fährst => _______ gefahren Er geht => ______ gegangen Sie laufen => _______ gelaufen

1. They fly. They flew. 2. I fall asleep. I fell asleep. 3. She goes.She went. 4. You drive. You drove. 5. We run. We ran.

Conversational Past Haben/sein: conjugated in 2 nd position Past participle (ge +) goes to the end. Ich fahre am Montag nach Grand Rapids => Ich bin am Montag nach Grand Rapids gefahren. (Regardless of how much other stuff is there!)

1. We pulled for Hope College. 2. He thinks a lot. 3. She catches the ball. 4. They gave us Bibles. 5. I slept in the movie theatre yesterday.

Conversational Past Past participle for a separable verb: prefix + ge + root + t/en. ein + ge + root + en = eingeschlafen. Note: the verb does not separate! Ich schlafe ein => Ich bin eingeschlafen.

Conversational Past Past participle for inseparable verbs: NO ge- prefix appears. Ich verkaufe meine Bücher => Ich habe meine Bücher verkauft. Ich verbinde die Alpen mit dem Süden. Ich habe die Alpen mit dem S. verbunden.
