The „Perfekt“ tense The German „Perfekt“ tense is a past tense that is similar to the English present perfect. For weak German verbs the rule for forming the „Perfekt“ tense is: A conjugated form of „haben“ + „ge“ + stem of the verb + t Beispiel: Ich habe gestern Deutsch gelernt. Wir haben gestern den Deutschkurs gehabt. Er hat am Montag Obst gekauft.

„ge“ + stem of the verb + t is called „Partizip“ Gelernt, gebracht, gemacht, gehabt, genannt

Another group of German verbs (strong verbs) form the participle in a different way. A conjugated form of „haben“ + „ge“ + changed stem of the verb + en The verb forms with a change in the stem have to be memorized, there is no rule  Beispiel: Ich habe gestern Bier getrunken. (trinken) Ich habe gestern im Bett gelegen. (liegen) Ich habe am Donnerstag den Test geschrieben. (schreiben)

The Perfekt tense with „sein“ To form the Perfekt tense, most German verbs use „haben“ as an auxiliary However, some verbs use „sein“ These verbs are intransitive 99% of them express a change of place or condition There are both weak and strong (regular and irregular) verbs that form the Perfekt with „sein“

A conjugated form of „sein“ + „ge“ + stem of the verb + t -> for example: reisen, folgen, wandern -> Ich bin nach Deutschland gereist. -> Er ist dem Mann gefolgt. A conjugated form of „sein“ + „ge“ + changed stem of the verb + en -> for example: bleiben, gehen, fahren, laufen, werden, sein -> Ich bin zu Hause geblieben. -> Wir sind in der Uni gewesen.
