Present Perfect The present perfect is built with the auxiliary verb “haben” or “sein” and the past participle (gemacht, gefahren). “haben” is the rule – “sein” is used for the verbs that indicate a change of position (fahren, gehen, laufen…) indicate a change of condition (einschlafen, aufwachen…) The auxiliary verb is conjugated and in the position of the verb, the second verb (infinitive) is at the end of the sentence.

Present Perfect Tense incl. modal Present tense: Ich rufe dich an. Perfect tense: Ich habe dich angerufen. Present tense: Ich muss dich anrufen. Perfect tense: Ich habe dich anrufen müssen. _____________________________________ In the perfect tense modals appear a the end of the phrase in the infinitive! The main verb also appears in the infinitive, not in the participle form! The aux. for modals is always “HABEN”!
