The perfect tense Vital for a good grade!!

There are 2 parts to the perfect tense 1)The correct part of haben (or sein) 2) + the past participle

We all know ‘haben’:  ich habe wir haben  du hast ihr habt  er/sie hat Sie haben sie haben sie haben

The correct part of ‘haben’ goes in…….  2 nd place in the sentence!

Now we need to form the past participle:  Assuming the verb is regular (check on P226!)  1) add ge- to the beginning  2) take off the –en from the end and replace it with -t

Eg:  machen  1) gemachen  2) gemacht This is the past participle!

The past participle goes….  at the END of the sentence!

Some verbs are formed with ‘sein’…..  These are usually verbs of movement  And are usually irregular

Of course we know ‘sein’  ich bin wir sind  du bist ihr seid  er/sie ist Sie sind sie sind sie sind

If the verb uses ‘sein’ it goes……  2 nd in the sentence!

If the past participle is irregular it still goes…..  At the END of the sentence!

Some irregular verbs….  Ich bin ins Kino gegangen  Er ist nach London gefahren  Wir sind zu Hause geblieben
