The Common Past Forms of sein (to be), haben (to have) & wissen (to know [as a fact]) (Prof. Engel-Doyle, Version vom 2. April 2009)

Unlike most other verbs, sein (to be) & haben (to have) & wissen (to have) tend to sport the simple past tense form (as opposed to the compound present perfect tense form) for BOTH the conversational past AND the narrative past. Aside: modals behave the same, but next chapter! Let’s practice the past of haben und sein first!
